Hello J.. PPD is different for everyone. Best thing you can do for yourself is to talk with your doctor and let him/her know how your feeling, what your feeling, and find out what you can do about it. Don't wait too long, it does effect the little ones. I'm sorry your going through a rough time. Is there any friends, or loved ones you also can reach out too for some comfort? It will get better, you just have to ask for some help. Good luck, and God bless you and your family.

Please know you are okay. PPD happens to a lot of people. I know I had it, I even had depression while I was pregnant. Hormones are not always are friend. Stay in close contact with your dr. and keep in touch with friends and family if they are supportive and understanding, if not find someone who is. It does get better. When I can't tell you, it is different for everyone. I survived several bouts of ppd and I am okay.
Stay in touch with us, we care a lot of us have been there.

It WILL go away. I suffered from PPD as well, but it got better eventually. I realized I had a problem when my daughter was about 2 weeks old and I was trying to put together her baby swing. I was having trouble with it and my husband asked if I needed help. I threw some piece of it across the room, crumpled up into a ball on the floor and sobbed hysterically. This was not one of my finer moments, but I knew there were some issues. When I went to the doctor, I cried with her as well- and I don't cry in front of people except my mom and husband.

Anyway, the point is my OB gave me some samples of a medication that I can't remember it's name right now, but it made me feel sooo much better. I'm not a huge proponent of medications, but I knew I had to do something to make the horrible feelings go away.

You're not alone and you're not falling apart. You're recovering from the biggest life change ever. It's OK and you'll be fine. I think every mom suffers from PPD to some degree at some point in their lives. My sister, who is the strongest person I know, was at home about 2 weeks after having her 2nd baby and called her husband at work, crying, to tell him he had to come home right away otherwise she was afraid they wouldn't have 2 children anymore. (Whether she would have really hurt her kids or not, I don't know, but she broke down and that was very scary.)

Please send me a personal message if you'd like to talk more. I know this is a tough time for you. Best of luck!

J.,

Your baby is only 1 month old, plus you have two others. Be patient with yourself. It can take quite a while for your hormones of pregnancy to get back to normal. With my second baby, I had a hot flash every night at 11 pm for about 4 months after he was born. Just because you have some medication to help the process absolutely does not mean you are not normal. The meds can just help the process move along a little faster to get you back to yourself.

I know you are swamped busy, but take the time to join a Mom's group. You can find a local chapter through www.momsclub.org and then get support from other women who share your experiences and concerns.

Be well, and write again,
K.

This affects every mother differently. With me i had a hard 6 months. Now i see how much i acutally missed out on my childs infant stage while i was off in my own world. I never got the anger toward children..just the every down feelings and lonely as well as not wanting to be bothered. My best advice...is let people in ur life. Let mom, whoever come around help out and talk. Work hard to get part of ur old life back. Like ur once and lost body. Gosh i felt better when i got me back. Also meds girl. Yes may sound bad. No ur not a bad mom person or anything to take something that can help u. And helping u helps the whole family. Ur man needs to be explained ur feelings and hv him step in more than he should to help u. I hope the best for u. Theres books on this...reading is great to help urself understand whats happening and how to react better:D . Best of luck. If u notice its getting worst...go back and see the dr. The sooner this passes the better u and family will be. Some people who never deal with this ....lead a diff. life for a long time like my friend stephaine. So please reach out and get support and help and take action before things snowball. Just watch ur little infant sleeping and that should make u smile when ur alone and need it.
good luck dear and repost if ur dealing with new things. my email is ____@____.com if u feel like expressing to someone who delt with it and also dont know so u know ur "safe" lol.
hugs=}

Hi J., first of all you are definately not alone! I just had my first child, a boy who is now 11 1/2 weeks old and I felt the same way. My doc also gave me some meds for ppd. I have been reading a few books and they also seem to help. I also feel alone alot, especially when I was on leave. It seemed like my husband could come and go as he pleased but I was the one "stuck" taking care of our son. I feel much better now that I have returned to work and have that adult social time but it still is overwhelming when i think about all that needs to be done. So, you are definately not in this by yourself. I wish i had better counseling for you except that hang in there, I bet you are a great mom! A few books to suggest: Surviving the first year of motherhood; Mothering the New Mother; and This isn't what I expected. The first one is just fun reading the other two have alot of resources,

Best of luck and hang in there

Hi J.. I am a first time mom and I suffered from PPD. My doctor put me on some meds and I started to feel better within a few days. Most anti-depressants take up to 2 weeks for them to get fully in your system. Don't feel like you are falling apart! It happens to the best of us, and it's not anything that you did wrong. You have a lot on your plate with three boys (especially with a 2 year old and a one month old). IS there any friends or family you can talk to? Or maybe a babysitter that will give you a chance to do something for yourself for a little bit? Feel free to write me if you'd like to talk. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi, J.--

I have a 26 month old and an 11-1/2 month old and I suffered from PPD after both pregnancies. I don't know if you're in Columbus or not, but there is a great support group that I belong to called POEM (Perinatal Outreach and Encouragement for Moms) and their website is www.poemonline.org. The support groups are twice a month and they also have a phone support line.

Yes, I remember the loneliness being overwhelming and I cried all day. This group has really helped me and I recommend it if you can come. (You can also bring your kids if you need to.)

It's ok post-partum is common. You are not falling apart. Some anti-depressants can take up to a month to feel the full effect, but you should start to feel better in about a week. When I was diagnosed, I also saw a counceler a few times. I hope you feel better soon. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
