Potty Training Doll

Hi mom's, my pedi reccommended using the book "Potty Training in Less Than One Day" - this book suggests that you teach your child with a doll that goes potty. I am having trouble finding a doll that pottys that isn't 50.00- any moms use this method before and if so, what doll did you get? Please don't send me any negative comments about this method- its just what I am going to try first. Thank you!! I always appreciate the mamas advice.

I used that method but I didn't bother with a doll that peed. We talked about what happened on the potty when I went potty for quite a while before, so she knew that pee and poop came out. So I just used a regular stuffed bear to demonstrate. Good luck, I loved the program! My daughter was done at 17.5 months :)

Hi M.. Good luck with the program! I've used it 3 times and it's a great program. One thing, I don't use the re-training when they have accidents... my kids thought it was a fun game so not so much a punishment! LOL

I got my doll at a goodwill store. I bet you could find one there, and cheap! After all, it's not really for a treasured gift but more to be used as a tool for teaching. I bet you'll have luck if you shop around at a Goodwill or at Texas Thrift or some other resale shop.

I got one at Wal Mart. but that also was Dr Phil's thing and it does not work for everyone. G. W

you could use just a favorite doll and put a little water in the potty yourself

That Program works!! And its not too stressful for your child that Is a huge Bonus!!
Check Dollar General for a cheaper Doll that goes "potty"!!

I read this book and spent the WHOLE day doing it. I didn't want to spend the $50 (the cheapest I could find too) so I used his Elmo doll and a medicine syringe and "made" Elmo "pee" with that. He didn't see the syringe or anything. It was SUCH a pain, that day was AWFUL!! And it didn't work at all. Then someone else recommended the Kleint book "Potty Trained in 3 Days" and there method is similar, but MUCH less work. And it worked WAY better and PTed our son. To me, it's a much more realistic book and expectations. So if the one day book doesn't work for you either, I would really try the Kleint one. Good luck, I HATE PTing!!

I did not use that method with DS, but we did take Elmo to the potty and pretended Elmo was going. Then, when Elmo was done, it was DS's turn. We did have a book about Elmo going potty. At this age, I think they can use their imagination and pretend with stuffed animals.

Hi M.,
We tried the potty training in a day and although it didn't work for our son, I think it helped him with the concept and we were still glad that we did it. We bought the expensive Potty Paul as recomended by the book. It leaks so you have to hold it on its back until you are ready for it to pee. It was expensive to not pee right but he did enjoy it. We saved the box and left the diaper in the box and sold it on Ebay once he was bored with it. Good luck.

Hi M.,

I actually didn't use a doll, but at the time I was training my daughter (she was 18 months old), she LOVED Elmo. I had a stuffed Elmo doll, and I would put Elmo on the little kids potty on the floor that sat in front of the adult potty. Using a child's potty seat for the adult potty, I would set my daughter on the adult potty while telling her that Elmos is going "potty" on the child's potty. She loved it, and it worked. So I don't think you have to use a doll, necessarily. Perhaps use a stuffed animal or get a stuffed character that your daughter loves. It will likely mean more to her.

Good luck and if you have any questions, let me know. Both my children (a boy and a girl) were trained before they were 2 years old).
