Potty Training a 2Year Old

i bought the books "once upon a potty" and "everyone poops" and read them to both my son and daughter. i would have them sit on the kiddy-toilet while we read and when they did pee, we'd make a big deal out of it. they thought it was great. i also have a friend who used those things that turn the water blue for the big kids toilets. she would make up this whole story about how it's magic water and when we pee it turns the water green. silly, but it worked for her kids.

We read lots of kids books that had to do with little girls and going to the potty. We also first practiced with her doll going on the potty. We used regular panties, not pullups so she could feel the sensation. We gave two gummy bears for pee and a sucker for poop, which after a week phased itself out. Lots of praise and hugs. After she would go potty she could pick someone to call to tell them(Grandma, friend ect) By the end of the week she was pretty much accident free so we had a cake for her accomplishment.

My son wasn't too hip on using his small potty seat either. Therefore, we had him pick out a special seat to put on the big potty and he had no problem. Then, when he actually went potty, he got a special sticker. Once he filled up his sticker chart, he got to buy a new book. Also, once he was 90% potty-trained... he picked out some underware and we actually put a pull-up on OVER his underware. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Set the potty chair out so it will be available, but don't push the issue. She will use it when she's ready. :)

She may not be as ready as you think. I'd let her decide if she wants to go or not. Maybe she doesn't like the little chair. Put her on the big potty, she may want to do it that way. Two is young to train. You become more trained than the child. I'd let it go and see what happens. Good Luck!!!!

My daughter is also 2. She started showing the same potty training signs as your daughter. She wasn't too enthusiastic about going on the potty until I offered her a reward. So, I made her a potty and poopy chart. I taped the chart in the bathroom and everytime she goes potty or poop on the toilet, she gets to put a sticker on the chart. The little smiley face stickers work great because she gets to pick the color as well as put it on the chart herself. She now gets so excited about going potty. I also decided to put panties on her just to keep her and myself consistent with the process and she has stayed dry so far. I still keep the pullups handy and use diapers for nightime. Good Luck!!

I just want to say, your little girl is off to a very good start. If she is at least sitting on her toilet, when you take her to it, all the better. She seems to already get the connection but give her as much time ON the potty to train her body as well. (Even I had to train my body how to go potty after giving birth)

She is new at this, so try to encourage her as well. Let her know, one day she will go pee pee and poo poo in the potty all the time so she won't have to wear diapers anymore. Give her encouraging words when she says potty and has a dry diaper, let her know dry diapers are a good thing!

My patience have been stretched to their limits, as well, when it comes to potty training and I have vented those frustrations here as well. Hearing from other moms helped a lot.

It is very on the cutesy, cheesy side, but Elmo's Potty Time helped me laugh about potty training as much as it gave my daughter more songs to sing.

You could buy a trainer toliet the plays music,try candy or special treat,and try the water running when she sits on the toliet.The water running is supposed to help you go to the bathroom.Good luck.Not an easy job but constiency in doing what works helps alot.Best wishes!
