Hello my daughter is 2 1/2 and is doing fairly well with potty training except for when she has to go poop. She doesn't tell us and when we think she is going to go and we sit her on the potty chair she will not go. She wears training undies all of the time. Any advice...thanks

What can I do next?

When my daughter started to go poopy in the potty (she will be three on may 24) I made a HUGE deal of it!! I started jumping up and down and yelling and clapping my hands and telling her " Wow look how big that is"!! And then I would tell her that is just like her daddys!! I know it sounds strange but it worked. She is so excited now to go, she evan shuts me out of the bathroom and then she will come and get me to look at it. I know it is grose, but whatever works, works! I had evan started out with giving her a prize anytime she did go poop. Take the training pants off and put her in real big girl panties and evan let her pick them out, that will make her feel more in power of her own choices. Hope this helps you out. Good luck.

My son is four and still does this sometimes. Lots of patience, I guess.

HAVE SOME PATIENCE!!!!!! You can bend over backwards, and stand on your head to try to get a baby potty trained, but only she can do it when she is good and ready! Stop pulling out your hair and appreciate and love your child no matter if they are potty trained at 2 1/2 or 4! I get so tired of mothers thinking they have some control over these little milestones. Your wasting precious time that you could be having fun with your child instead meeting some silly deadline to have your child potty trained!! Relax, it'll happen with or without you!

Peace, Love and 3 babies (all under 5 yrs.) Two are potty trained and I did absolutely nothing to get them there, except for loving them and encouraging them constantly...only with love everything else will just fall into place!!!!

Hi A.,
My youngest of three was my only one that needed bribed when it came to potty training. With her we gave her a Tic-tac we ever she went #1 then GUM when she went #2 on the potty. After a while she just stopped asking for gum since going potty was a "normal" thing. But that’s what help us. I hope this helps. Good luck and God Bless,
K.

My daughter did the same thing. She tended to poop in the afternoon, so we finally told her that if she was going to poop in her panties then she didn't get to wear them. We let her run around bottom half naked and that worked. She wanted something ot poop in (like the panties) so when she had to poop she would tell us and then we ran to the bathroom. Worked like a charm. Maybe you can try that. It willb e a few days at the house, but it's worth it.

I made "poopy faces" at my daughter and in a strained voice said "poo-poo" as she sat on the potty. Get on her level, look straight at her and hold her shoulders or the sides of her legs firmly so it looks and feels to her like what she should be doing to push the process along! :) This seemed to help my daughter. She would imitate me and lo and behold! I also do this when I want her to go when she doesn't go for more than 1 day. God bless! P.S. I would put her in cotton panties and see how she does. It might just make the difference!

I feel your pain. My almost 3 1/2 year old has been pee trained for over a year and has gone in cycles of poop trained. At first she would have the occasional success and poop on the potty but then after awhile, she reverted back to having poop accidents. Typically between these accidents, she was constipating herself and only going every 2-3 days rather than her usual once a day when she was in diapers. I tried taking away the panties, bribes, putting on a diaper just so she could poop, etc. Nothing consistently worked until SHE decided that she was going to poop on the potty. She still has difficulty going in public restrooms (we keep a potty seat in the car) but since she made the decision a few months ago, she has been doing great and NO accidents. Just be patient and when she finally gets it, you'll look back and wonder what all the fuss was about! Good luck.

Kinderplatz, our pre-k school suggested to parents that training pants confuse children. So we stopped putting our daughter in them. That seemed to do the trick, plus we put her on the potty before and within 1 hr after a meal, whether she did anything or not. 9 times out of 10, she would potty--suggest reading a book on the pot to them. Good Luck!

We have hard wood & tile only (our rugs are cheap, so when all the potty training is over, we can get new ones), so if you don't want to ruin your carpet, try the running around naked-thing outside.

Time, patience, no pressure, no regression, reward charts . . .

My now 13 year old was exactly the same at that age. Night times and peeing were a breeze, BMs not so much. But once we put her in trainers I refused to go back to diapers or pull-ups. It took another 6 months, and some constipation issues, but ultimately we set a goal and created a visual towards that goal. About a month before her 3rd birthday, we would occasionally mention (not to much because it can stress them out and have the opposite effect) to her that 3-year olds don't poop in their pants so she had to stop when she turned 3. Then, when she turned 3, we created a reward chart and hung it on the wall. Every day she was successful got a sticker, after so many stickers there were small rewards, and when she finally kicked the habit completely (about 3 weeks after turning 3) she got a tricycle.

Good luck!

You might want to take her to the store and have her pick out some big girl panties. Then tell her that after she has gone 1 week w/out any accidents, she can wear the big girl panties. I would also leave them where she can see them as a reminder and incentive. However, do not worry. It will happen when she is ready.

Be sure she is drinking LOTS of water and eating lots of fruit and veggies so she won't get constipated. Also, sometimes, they are just a little freaked out seeing that come out of their own body and flushing it. My granddaughter felt that way so I waited until she was starting to poop and took her to the little potty and put her on it. She had already started pooping so it was a little messy (I dumped the contents of the panties in the little potty) but I told her "this is where we put the poop. Next time, we will put it here also."
After a couple of times of doing that, she went on the potty. We rewarded with one M & M each time. We always have books for her to look at while she sits. Now, at 3 years old, she tells us to go away and she will call us when she is done. :)

for some reason it always seems to take them longer to go poop, but when you think it seems like she is about to, after sitting her on the potty chair, give her a book to look at and so she will sit a little longer, and then she may (accidenty) go, and then she could be praised and maybe given a treat like a few raisens if she like them. Worked for my kids anyway.
