Potty Training - Crittenden, KY

When I was potty training my children, we tried practice runs to the potty. you might try this. I would take them by the hand to a room, tell them to pretend they are playing, and then feel like they had to go potty. What would they do, they would run to the potty. We would then run to the potty, and then actually sit on the potty. We would repeat this 'game' from several different rooms of the house, and they would always run to the potty. Basically create a muscle memory. You might try this?

I am a mother of five children, two boys and three girls. My oldest and third one are boys and they were both potty-trained, both day and night, by 2 and a half years of age. My second oldest is a girl and she potty trained herself when she was 13 months old. My three older ones did exact same thing as your daughter: they went to the bathroom fine if they did not have anything on. But once they had pull-ups, dipaers, underwears, pants, you name it, then they just wet themselves, instead of using the potty.

I let them run around without underwear at home for a little while. Then eventually, I finally had to put them in training underwear. They are made with a little thicker material than the regular underwear. And go ahead and expected accidents, many, many accidents. Eventually, my kids decided to use potty even when they had something on.

My forth one was a little different than the older three. She did not want to be potty-trained until she turned 3. But once she decided she was ready, she was potty trained in one day. No accidents even at night. She has probably had the least accidents out of the 4.

My fifth one just turned 2 in March and she also uses the potty if she does not have anything on (Like my three older ones, she refuses to wear underwear and so on.) With her, I am going to wait until the summer to really start potty-training. At first I am going to have to have her wear underwear. If she wet herself a few times, I know she will get it eventually.

You might be confusing her by using pull ups, diapers and underwear. The pull ups are just the same as diapers they can not feel the wet. Try just underwear. She is still young and may not quite understand. Keep trying she will be there before you know it.

mine does the exact same thing! i just keep her in long dresses and when it is cold i use leg warmers (my old kneesocks with the feet cut off). if it is really cold or she is doing active play in public, i put something else on bottom. the really loose, poofy bloomers (and lots of reminders) seem to work best to minimize accidents. she is slowly getting better---more trustworthy when she has something on her bottom, but it is still about 50-50. just so you know you are not alone!

We were daytime-trained at 2 but only if I let him run around bottomless. Pullups and diapers do not work for us at all. I would try out underwear from time to time and had pee accidents for a couple of months; however for #2, he would take his underwear off and sit on the potty. One day when he was around 2 1/4, he just decided to no longer have accidents and would tell us to take him to the potty when we're out.

Make sure the underwear is loose, like 1-2 sizes too big, to facilitate little fingers from removing them. It'll just click one day.

We're waiting on the nightime potty training thing to click now. We remind him every night to not pee in his diaper and he agrees every night. We have about a 75% chance of a dry diaper in the morning now. He pees before bed but we minimize liquid intake close to bedtime.

Hi A.! I always heard that potty training girls was easier than boys, but that has not been our case. My daughter did the same thing, except she would pee even if she was naked. The only way I could train her was to put a long t-shirt or night gown on her during the day and no pants at all. I made a spreadsheet where she put a sticker in one of the blanks for that day whenever she went in the potty. After a week of no accidents we went shopping for panties. I understand you are working, but maybe you could do this when you are at home, so she gets the idea.

A. could you share the info you get from others. I am watching my 2 year old grandson who is also a Feb. baby. He does a lot of the same thing. He wants to run a round bottomless. Needless to say with carpet this is not good.
It's been so long since I dealt with potty issues. Our youngest son is 25.

My daughter turned 3 in April and had started to potty train in spring/summer 2007 when she was 2. She too would go if she had anything on so I allowed her to run around bottomless and most the time she wanted to be just naked. I did pull-ups if we had to go somewhere or at night. By Feb/March 2008 we were finally wearing panties all day and on her birthday in April I stopped the pull-ups at night. Pull-ups are just like diapers so I don't really like them but they are so much easier to get up and down while trying to potty train. Just keep doing what you are doing and she will be in big girl panties before you know it! Good Luck!!

Hello. This may sound weird, but I always told this to my first born. I would buy her some princess or (whatever she likes)and tell her that they will be upset if she goes in them .I wouldn't reccomed pull ups right now because i'm sure that she might still have the accidents. I hope I was some help! :)

And why would she not have something on her bottom all of the time except for bedtime? Just curious about this.
My daughter was toilet trained by the time she was 13 months old. Then as a favor on my days off from the Salon I owned in the middle of the week I started watching a little girl 5 months older who wasn't trained at all, it drove me crazy because my child decided she didn't need to use the toilet either!
She wanted a giant sucker from an ice cream parlor my parents would take her to. My dad told her if she could go 1 week with no accidents he would get her one. She was great, called him and told him about 1 week with no accidents, two days later the sucker arrived and she was thrilled. Two hours later she wet her pants. Then it was a special doll she wanted and two weeks of no potty in the pants. The day after she got the doll she pottied in her pants again. Then it was a swing set, 3 weeks no problem, the day we put up the swing set, no problem, the next day it was potty in the pants again so the swings came off the set until a month later when she quit again.

A., I hear you with the potty situation. I "just" got over that with my son and he will be 3 in July. For the longest time he would do the same things. It was like there was too many steps for him to understand. So he went diaperless with the potty in the living room so he could go often and then we only moved the potty into the bathroom. That took a little adjustment for him but finally it worked. Then I started encouraging underwear. We made a big deal about getting some new ones at the store with his favorite characters on them. Then every day I would ask him which ones he wanted to wear. Then I would CONSTANTLY ask him if he needed to go and remind him "remember let mommy know if you have to go potty b/c you don't want to pee/poo-poo on Diego." We made a really big deal about him wearing his underwear just like all the big kids/mommy/daddy/cousins...he knows and would name them. If you keep working with her, she will get it. It totally takes a lot of patience and redundancy (sp??) but it will pay off. My son is finally potty trained, though he still has his fits when we ask him to go before he is ready, but he has made some big progress. The other thing we did was offer lots of rewards from tv, to candy, to toys (small), to keep encouraging him. So stick with it and if I can offer any more encouragement to you just let me know.
