Forget my waistline for now, will my ribcage and feet ever shrink back to size? I had my first child eight weeks ago and my husband would rather I not have to buy all new shoes and dresses.

What can I do next?

Wait about a year before you throw everything out. You may need some "inbetween" clothes, but you may go back. Don't be rash yet.

My feet DID go back - though everyone had told me they wouldn't (and I had thrown out all my old shoes). My ribcage - no, it never did.

(thrown out for me = donated to Good Will)

Eight weeks is too soon to tell.
All women are different.
I was thinner after I had my second son than when I started out and had to get new clothes.
I would suggest going to thrift stores and finding transitional clothes until your body has had more time to adjust.
I volunteer at a thrift store and you would not believe the nice things we get in, many with the original tags still attached. Same with shoes.
You can find some nice things to fit that aren't expensive (our shoes are $1.00 and all clothes 99cents). I have bought things there to wear for my professional job at the hospital.
LIke I said, 8 weeks is too soon to tell how your body will bounce back but you can still look cute and have things while you go through the changes.

Best wishes!

First pregnancy everything returned to normal with regular workouts in 3 months. Second, feet same size no increase, ribs had to go to my chiropractor to adjust ribs. However, due to my 4th degree tear and slight nerve damage from the epidural its taking longer to get myself back to normal but my waistline is almost back to normal and our little one is now 21 months. You are only 8 weeks in so don't worry your body will return to normal just workout and have a healthy diet; you'll be fine.

It depends, I suppose. My ribcage, waistline, and shoe size are the same. (as before pregnancy, my son is 17 months old.) I lost the weight quickly, but everything didn't go back to it's original place/size, until 5 months after.

I had the same prob with my first child. The ribcage and feet returned to normal size eventually. Would think that yours would too but every person is different.

You can try drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water every day. Not only will that be great for your body in general but also breast milk production, reducing water retention, and for "regularity".

Rather than buying all new dresses would it be possible just to have yours let out a little? At least then you wouldn't be out a whole second wardrobe but only the cost of some alterations. It would be best though to wait a little longer though to see what your body is going to do.

Congrats on the new addition and hang in there.

Hope this helps. :-)

I wish that I could offer you some hope...but my feet are at least a size larger than before I had my daughter (over three years ago).

I am on baby #4 and with all of them my ribs and hips went back to normal size, it took about 3 to 4 months. I am sure timing is different for everyone. As far as my feet, no go. I gained about a half size with each pregnancy. It is a huge bummer as I used to be an 8.5 and now a 10 to 10.5. YIKES! So probably new shoes for you. - ) Sorry to break the news to ya.

Enjoy the newest little one!

Don't know what to tell you about the dresses but I have bad news about your feet. I had size 10.5 feet before my pregnancy and now they are 11.5!!! And they don't seem to be shrinking back to 10.5. I'm afraid you are stuck with your larger feet.

Your husband needs to get over it. I am 1 and a half shoes sizes bigger than before I had my 3 kids. Or about 1/2 a shoe size bigger after each one.

I gained a shoe size after during pregnancy and it never went back, sorry to say. Rib cage and hip bones I'm not sure about, sometimes they will go back sometimes they wont. I'd start doing Yoga tho, it's great for getting your core muscles back to normal which will also pull your frame back into proportion. Have fun at Payless Shoes ;)
It's only been 8 weeks tho, give yourself a couple of more months before you go too crazy shopping.

It can happen. My ribcage expanded and stayed there.
Shoe size can go up a size as well. You can buy some very inexpensive
basics in shoes/clothes to get you by.
Choose basic colors and types for clothing (a few tops/bottomes, navy/black/tan).
Buy some sensible shoes that will go w/everything.
And tell poor hubby next time HE can carry the baby. hee hee. Meant with humor :)

Sorry...it's time to buy new shoes. Your feet won't get smaller. However, as you organs make their way make into your abdominal cavity, your ribs should go back to their normal position. Visceral massage helps with this. It can take awhile though....It took me 18 months just to get my stomach muscles to go back together.
Congrats on your new little one!

Your ribcage? Can't say I've heard that one unless you are just talking about bigger breasts. Your feet, nope they are that size to stay! :) just enjoy your new baby don't worry about your size life is too short!!

I don't know about your ribcage, but your feet won't. Sorry! :)
They stretch because the hormones you had in your system (to ease the carrying/birth of your child) also relaxed the tendons/ligaments in your feet. I went up 1/2 size on one foot & a full size on the other! Go ahead and get the shoe shopping over with! :D

If it's only been 8 weeks then your body still has a lot of adjusting to do. Your blood volume needs time to regulate, plus if you are nursing, your size can change drastically.

One thing that probably won't change is your feet unless you feel really swollen. The extra weight we carry during pregnancy (or even just from weight gain) puts a lot of pressure on our feet and the ligaments stretch from the pressure causing your feet to spread. I'm wearing 1/2 size larger shoes after my 2nd pregnancy. I pulled out a pair of pumps I wore easily after my first and now they were uncomfortably tight.

Give yourself 6 mos before you start buying a whole new wardrobe. You might even be able to keep your clothes by taking off an extra 5lbs or so from your pre-pregnancy size. There is also the option of getting your dresses altered to fit.

Just thoughts -
Congratulations on that new baby!!

It really depends. It is too soon to tell. I think if you are nursing then you have a much better chance of getting back to the way you were. But then later on it has to do with lifestyle choices. My feet are the same but I am 15 lbs less then when I got pregnant. I don't really eat out and don't have time to cook and eat rich food.
