Possible Relocation to the Reno Area

Hi there! My husband is traveling out to Reno Tomorrow for a job interview with a company in Fernley. While originally from Maryland, we have been in Little Rock for 2 years. We have 2 children ages 3 and 1.

Should this work out, my husband's job would be in Fernley. So we are thinking about living in Fernley or Sparks. I was wondering if I could get some opinions/thoughts from moms that live there now. Specifically right now we are trying to focus on Elementary schools and then neighborhoods.

Thanks in advance for all your help!
M.

Hello M.,

If your husband is working in Fernley I think you might prefer living here. It is much smaller than Reno or Sparks, it is a friendly place and as was mentioned we are growing, we now have a Lowes and Starbucks.

There are three elementary schools here, Fernley, Cotton Wood and East Valley. I am not familiar with Fernley, but Cottonwood and East Valley are both very nice schools with about average student-teacher ratios (not really big, not really small).

We have a few annual events you might enjoy like the Christmas Parade and a large 4th of July Celebration.

Whether you choose Sparks or Fernley I think you will enjoy our area. I wish you all the best with your possible relocation.

T.

Fernley is thirty minutes from Sparks, Nevada. Fernley is about 20,000 population. Many new businesses opening here Walmart, Lowes and even Starbucks. Check out Flood Zones as we had a flood here recently from a brake in the Truckee canal.
Sparks is also a super family community lots to do and great schools. My two neices are school teachers for Washoe county in Reno and Sparks.
Either town is a good choice. We love Fernely and it shows. D.

I live in the town next to fernley, the schools in fernley are good and the kids are all great. Sparks is Washoe county and Fernley is Lyon Co. You could look up the school district on the web site. Fernley is a small town around 15,000 people, their is alot of sport activity for kids in the area soccer, baseball, softball, ta kwon do, and football. Sparks in right next to reno so it is alot bigger. Fernley is about 30 min drive from Sparks(all highway). It does have a Walmart, and some other stores and fast food places. Both would be nice, it just depend on if you want to live in the city or a small town. P.S. its very dry out here.
