Possible Miscarriage

I need some help. I took a pregnancy test yesterday because I was late and it showed I was pregnant. I was cramping like I was going to start but never started I did pass a very small amount of blood yesterday, which I was told was normal, and then nothing else all day, but this morning I passed a very small clot and some bright red blood. I am very concerned that I am miscarrying. I've had one miscarriage in the past but have since had a beautiful son who is the joy of our lives. We were so excited yesterday. Is is possible to pass a very small clot and it not be a miscarriage? The bleeding is next to nothing, but enough to concern me. I know I need to see a doctor, but it is the weekend and it is just hard to wait to know anything.

What can I do next?

No one can tell you but a doctor and I would go to an emergency room. I bled from week 6 though. I lost my oldest son's twin.

I believe it is possible to pass a small clot and it not be a miscarriage. I passed a huge one way into my pregnancy and all was okay. Our bodies are not perfect--anything can happen. Many women continue to get a period on into their pregnancy even. Try to be at peace. Whatever is meant to be will be. Best wishes!

I had the same thing with my 2nd Daughter and early on with my 3rd pregnancy. It is so stressful!! My 2nd daughter was a threatened miscarriage everything turned out great, and now my with third pregancy everything is great. I would go to the ER today and then follow up with your OB on Monday. You could be off on your days and have implantation bleeding.

I had some light bleeding for 6 weeks into my first pregnancy and even some heavy bleeding about 1/2 way through (about 4 months). He is now 11.

The best advice is to see a doctor. Insist on a sono ASAP.

I am praying for you.

With it being a small amount of blood it could just be implantation bleeding but definitely needs to be checked out 1st thing this week to be sure. I had bleeding at 7 weeks with twins, similar thing...I had some cramping then when I got home and went to the bathroom a small amount of blood was there and little clot and that was it. We assumed m/c but went in the next morning and fond out everything was fine and that there were in fact 2 in there ;)

Call you doctor they should have a doctor on call or even a nurse. Hopefully they will be able to help you. If you are only passing clots and not bleeding all day long then you probably are o.k. The baby might just be implanting into your uterus which bleeding is very common. When I had my miscarriage I started bleeding and it did not stop then after the first day got really heavy. I am sure you probably went through the same during your miscarriage. With both my pregnancy after the mc I had bleeding on and off throughout the pregnancies. The doctor told me when I had them to come in we did sonograms and I was on bed rest until the bleeding stopped for 24 hours. You should probably lay around all weekend until you can get to your doctor. I will be praying for you.

Hi W.,
I've had 2 miscarriages and each one was different but with both I had a lot of bleeding, like a VERY heavy period.
The first time, I had very bad cramping and was doubled over in pain with severe bleeding.
The second time around, I just had bad bleeding with no pain at all so I thought I was just having some implantation bleeding but it turns out it was another miscarriage.
I wouldn't worry yourself so much if it's just been a small amount of bleeding. However if the bleeding continues or you're bleeding through a pan an hour, then it's a miscarriage.
Good luck and hope everything works out for you!

I have had one miscarriage. I spotted for about 2 weeks before I started cramping and having heavy bleeding. I went in with the spotting and they did a sono and the baby was fine. However, the baby always measured smaller. The doctor just assumed that I was wrong about my dates-I wasn't. Anyway, I know that some women have implantation spotting which could be what you're experiencing. I would say that do what you're comfortable with. If you go to the ER then you will probably get a sono and then you will know one way or another. They may or may not do labs. I would say call your OB and describe exactly what you described to us and see what your MD thinks. I wish you the best of luck!

It is hard to wait though something like that. And I wish that I could make the weekend go faster for you. I have had SEVERAL miscarriages early in pregnancy. One of the easiest ways to know or have and idea is to get some more pregnancy test. Test every day until you can make it in to the Doctor or until you get a negative. Even if you were to get a negative it is important to let your physician know what has happened and see is they will want to see you. You may also just decide to skip the wait and go into the ER. That sounds expensive but I have done it and it is not so bad. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had an episode of bleeding that scared me so bad but all was fine. Something I have yet to figure out but wish I knew was the statistic of how many women will bleed during the first 6 weeks of pregnancy and then continue to have a normal pregnancy. I don't know what the number is but I am sure that it is higher than any of us ever thought.

This happened to me during my first pregnancy. I had a threatened misscarriage. You need ot get into the doctor ASAP...stay off of your feet, no lifting etc. My son had no heart beat until I was 11 weeks along...they told me at that appointment if we didn't see the baby's heart beat at that visit we needed to schedule a DNC. We were quite lucky - my OB put me on progesterone to help my rock bottom low hormone levels. Get into your OB...mine started as pink discharge and turned blood red. I am happy to say that my threatened misscarriage who the ER doc only gave 30% chance of making it to ter is now 4 1/2!

Hi W.!
My heart goes out to you...I have had this worry/concern on me before.
My husband and I have a beautiful healthy 4 year old and I am now 19 weeks pregnant. However I have had 4 miscarriages between. With my son I spotted for the first 3 months, it was dark blood and the doc said it was old blood. Bright red, with cramping and clotting is not a positive sign however it may be nothing at this stage.
However the doctor always told me that if I was to that point and was having a miscarriage there was nothing I could do other than take care of myself and rest.
First thing tomorrow morning call your doctor and go in for a sonogram...if the bleeding or clotting gets worse go into the ER!
I am so sorry you have this worry and are going thru this...please keep me posted! ~ Kim

I have had one miscarriage myself and I passed much more blood than that, but I was about 8 weeks pregnant. I think only a doctor can determine if you are still pregnant by using an ultrasound or more probable a blood test. Unfortunately, I think you will have to wait until Monday. I know how hard that is going to be and my prayers are with you!

W., I believe that you are probably OK. Lay down & keep feet propped up all day, just to be safe. It is normal to pass a few small clots & the cramping can be normal also. Try to relax as much as possible and see what happens over the weekend, but again try and stay off of your feet as much as possible, especially if their is still spotting.
Best of Luck, I'll pray everything is OK.

I completely agree with Doris B. All you can do is have hope and faith and pray that everything works out for the best. Relax and try to enjoy your family this weekend because there IS STILL hope and a possibility that you are still pregnant. Don't let someone diagnose you over the internet and please ignore the negative comments you have received!

W.,
I know this is so frustrating and scary for you. I had bleeding and clots with my first and present pregnancy. When I called the doctor they said that as long as I wasn't bleeding enough to fill a pad in one hour that it was probably ok. You should definately call your doctor to make sure everything is ok, but just as some reassurance, you aren't in this boat alone.

My doctor asked me to come in, and he did a vaginal exam to make sure that my uterus was growing as it should be. He also suggested that my husband and I refrain from...stuff...until everything calmed down a little. You may also get to have a sonogram when you go in.

Hang in there, it's almost Monday, then you can stop worrying and know what's going on.

I had a normal period the first month I was pregnant. It all depends on your body. But if you are truly concerned, go talk to your doc!

Hi! I am so sorry that you are going through this. I wouldn't worry about the cramping, but the blood, if more than just a little concerned me. Before I had my first child I did the same thing and eventually miscarried, the only way to know for sure is to have blood tests every couple days to see if your hcg levels are rising. Mine where very low. But six weeks later I got pregnant again. I would talk to your doctor. Good luck!

I didn't pass a clot, but I did have a LOT of BRIGHT RED bleeding. Scared me to death! However, my doctor started me on progesterone (it was low) and now I have a healthy 8 month old. Good luck! Just take it easy and put your feet up until you can make it to the doctor.

W. - the exact same thing happened to me and unfortunately it was a miscarriage. Please get to Dr. as you'll need to make sure all the of the "material" is removed from your system. But don't give up on becoming pregnant! Shortly after my miscarriage I gave birth to an 8 lb 9 oz boy! He is now 8 years old and a wonderful child! Best of luck to you!

W., you've received some great feedback. It took me many tries to get pregnant, so I understand the concern, fear and frustration that you may be going through.

While all of our experiences and knowledge are awesome information for you to have, right now more than anything I think you need to take some deep, calming breaths and make yourself relax for the rest of the weekend. You can see your doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime, "whatever will be will be".

I know it's tough to hear, but the early weeks of pregnancy are so much about things that can't really be controlled. Do not allow yourself to get stressed out over stuff you can't control. Remind yourself of the Serenity Prayer/statement. You can't control if you are pregnant at the moment, but you can control your reaction to the stress. The calmer you are, the more you think about positive things in your life right now (non-baby related), the more laid back you can be this weekend, the better. It will help your blood pressure stay down, your natural steriods and chemicals to stay balanced in your body, and will allow your womb the best chance to thrive if you are pregnant. Tomorrow, when you see the doctor, he/she will be able to help explain things better. But for now, allow yourself to just be. Easier said than done, but neccessary.

Congratulations on the prospects of being pregnant. May tomorrow bring you happiness and future blessings. And, if tomorrow you find out you are not pregnant... get back on that horse and start trying again! :-) It will happen when it is supposed to. Again, hard to hear but true. Take care!

W. -
All of those things are possible and you can still have a healthy pregnancy. Suggestion #1 - lay down and get your feet UP (like elevated above your heart) and try to get into your OB on Monday morning. It's called spotting - I did it with my 2nd daughter and she came out great. But I did have some bedrest in the early days of my pregnancy. Some ladies have their period throughout their pregnancy, so anything is possible, but be careful and take it EASY and SLOW until you see what your Dr has to say. I'll be praying for you to have a restful, peaceful weekend and a great report from your Dr.
Blessings,
S.

Hi W.. Before I knew that I was pregnant with my son I bled lightly too. I kept thinking I was getting my period but never did. The bleeding was on and off and stopped after a few days. Then I found out I was actually pregnant. I had no complications at all during my pregnancy and gave birth to a very healthy, HUGE baby!

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that I had a miscarriage once too. But I had another pregnancy that resulted in a beautiful little boy who is now almost 4 and I spotted through that whole pregnancy. I was so worried that I was miscarrying him the whole time. It started out like you are describing and almost any time I did any sort of activity the whole pregnancy I would spot. However, everything turned out fine. So I just wanted to tell you this to let you know that there may be hope and don't get too worried. Best wishes - I know this is a tense time.
