Port Aransas Condo Recommendation Request

My family has never done the weekend beach deal and I am interested in heading to Port Aransas in May for 2 nights. I am looking for a recommendation for a CONDO rental (house rentals often sleep several and are priced accordingly). We want to be as close to the beach as possible so we can walk back and forth without it being a major hassle (have a 2 year old).

I HAVE visited the websites for rentals but they are overwhelming with hundreds of choices and I'd rather go with a personal recommendation from someone who has actually stayed there.

Lastly, any tips or advice for traveling to the beach with kids is welcome. I am sure we will make some rookie mistakes. THANKS!!!

So What Happened?

Went to Port Royal. Awesome. Our condo was so nice, I was shocked upon entering. When walking through the hallways, I was a bit apprehensive but when I opened the door to our condo, I was pleasantly surprised. It looked brand new and was decorated so well. I was actually shocked considering most beach side condo's are furnished with so-so furniture and bare minimum accommodations. This place had been completely remodeled, was absolutely HUGE and had a 30+long balcony.
I have heard some of the condo's there have been remodeled and they are individually owned so they are all different.
The pool is HUGE with two giant slides (need to be 48" tall to use). Good restaurant, store and pizza joint on property plus a snack bar and drink bar at the pool. We will definitely return. Check for off-season visits, costs about 1/2 the price and the weather is soooo much nicer off season.

Our family has an annual beach trip in Port Aransas every summer. I can only speak from experience. We normally stay at Port Royal. The pool area is beautiful and very large. (what I would call several adjoining pools and water slides. Your eight yr old would love it! Covered tables and lounge chairs and music on certain nights. Also it is very convenient to the beach. They have shuffleboard, tennis courts, hot tubs and close to Port Aransas should you wish to shop and dine. We have been very pleased and enjoy this annually. My children have been since they were babies. Now 11, 7 and 3. Pack lots of sunscreen, beach buckets and tools and dvd's and books for the children to enjoy. They will provide you with a playpen for your 2 year old. I have packed crib sheets and blankets before. The rooms provide washer/dryer and kitchen area. Make your meals ahead of time so you don't spend it cooking. Each of our families take turns making a breakfast and a dinner for a day. Pack favorite snacks & drinks. Take a portable cooler for the beach and some type of umbrella for coverage on the beach if you plan on staying several hours. Also mosquito spray to be on the safe side for the evenings (expecially if you play shuffleboard-located near grass.) Hope this helps. Hope you have a blast!!

I lived in Port Aransas last year after my divorce. Nice fun place. You should look into The Mayan Princess, Port Royal or the Aransas princess. Those are right on the beach and very family friendly. Port Royal is my favorite...The swimming pool is to die for. The prices are steep but it's well worth it. Port A is expensive during the season...Good Luck!!!

I highly recommend La Mirage for a family environment. We go down there all the time becasue my husbands family has a condo there. There are 2 pools, hot tubs, and direct access to the beach. This area of the beach is less crowded with your normal beach goers so there's not a lot of partying and stuff in this area. It's a great environment for families (especially for little kids, I have 2)! It's not the top of the price chain but it's definately a relaxing environment and well worth the trip!

Good luck and have fun!

I would recommend the Aransas Princess condominium. Until recently when they sold it, my grandparents had a condo unit there for family use, and we have been there several times with the kids. It's well run and clean, and it's right on the beach. You can go to the beach and pool over and over again each day. The only negative is that you cannot take a child who isn't potty-trained into the pool. I wish I had an owner's name for you to contact. Try Googling it to see what you find. Have fun!
