Plumber in Garland?
Hey moms - we live in one of those 70s-era houses in Garland and need some dripping faucets replaced. We had a plumber come out today who said it would be $2,000 to replace both because they are saudered in and have to be replaced at the source (in the wall). We also asked about the floor being wet around our dishwasher sometimes and he wanted $1,000 to replace the dishwasher, too (not including the price of the actual new dishwasher). I was stunned that a plumber would charge $3,000 to fix three things. But I've never done this before, so maybe that is reasonable? Anyone know? And does anyone know a good plumber in the Garland/Richardson area that they trust? Thanks!

So What Happened?™
Thanks to all the wonderful responses we got on this! We called several of the recommendations, and landed on Stanley at ###-###-#### (he was the Northlake guy that is now in Garland). He was great! Friendly, professional, and very reasonably priced. M&S Plumbing Co. is the name of the company he is with now.

I use Robert Renfro at ###-###-####. I have a ton of rental property and Bobby has taken good care of me for years. Replacing a shower pan is an expensive job, but it involves more than just plumbing - you have to pull the tile out and replace any rotted wood that there might be. You may need both a plumber and a carpenter/tile man. My carpenter tile man is Rudy Riddle (and he's a painter too) at ###-###-####. Your guy sounds like a contractor I used once long ago before I learned a lot more about these things. Every job he bid for me was always $3,000. A thousand to replace the DW is ridiculous. Your problem may be the disposal or it could be the DW, but the labor to replace a DW is under $100, unless some of the cabinet area has to be worked with because it's the wrong size for new DW's - but still $1,000 would be outrageous. Bobby could probably find the source of the water around the dishwasher, as well. Good luck.

I recently had a very bad leak in my front yard. After checking out several plumbing companies I called Butler Plumbing Co. They were courteous, professional and went out of their way to help me out in a bad situation including rescheduling some other work and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. They are in Rowlett but I'm sure they do work in Garland. If you want them to give you a price quote you can call them at ###-###-####. I sure as heck wouldn't pay $3000 for the work you described! Best of luck to you.

He is located in Rockwall and will come to the customer. He is much more reasonable with his prices. He also has 30yrs experience.

Sounds way too high to me. Get 2 or 3 bids before you decide. My husband does all of our handiwork thankfully and only occasionally have to call a plumber. I know it's getting more expensive but really. Lowes would sell you the diswasher and install cheaper than that. IF you even need a new one. Glad you didn't just take his word for it.

I also live in an older home in Garland. Speaks Plumbing Inc. 835 Hopkins St 75040 Garland ###-###-####, was recommended to us by many of our neighbors that have lived here forever. We have used them several times and they seem to be reasonable and fair. Plumbing is very expensive, but the prices you are quoting seem unusually high. I would get several quotes. I know that going into the wall is expensive and you need to be sure that they will do it right and clean up the mess. If you need a new dishwasher, I would have the people you buy it from install it. It should not cost $1,000. I bought a new dishwasher about a year ago at Rodenbaughs in Allen. They are great and they delivered and installed for about $150 or so. I don't remember exactly, but I know it was nowhere near $1,000.

I can refer you to a VERY reasonably priced plumber, and yes he is licensed. His name is Callem (pronounced kay lem) and he can be reached at ###-###-####. He fixed a sink leak, an attic leak and replaced and seated two toilets for a friend of mine and charged her less than $200..
