I need new upbeat/ up-tempo music that can be enjoyed by both mom and 6-month-old baby? Any suggestions out there?

What can I do next?

I'd say anything that's appropriate material. We enjoy music from all ages plus classical.

Ugh, Kid's Bop! I actually think it's gross that little kids are singing songs about ADULT subjects! One of the songs they sing "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence, which is a dark song about feeling dead inside. I don't need to hear a chorus of kids singing about feeling dead inside!

Listen to whatever you like! (I mean, maybe not stuff with parental advisory lyrics...) I used to put on Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin's An American in Paris, Madonna, the Beastie Boys, Led Zeppelin, U2... I have a pretty eclectic collection of music and listen to it all with my kids. I don't think music should be watered down for kids. I would also dance with them (holding them when they were babies, and then once they could stand I'd hold their hands and help them dance). They are both music aficionados now, and they both have great rhythm when they dance!

As an aside, Pottery Barn Kids often has fantastic CDs for kids - "real" music by "real" artists, wonderfully sophisticated yet accessible for young ears. These CDs have taken us from babyhood into elementary school.

I see they've been mentioned a couple times, but I also have to say I love They Might Be Giants!! Upbeat and educational music. Their cds also come with a dvd with music videos. There three best kid's cds are Here Comes Science, Here Come the ABCs and Here Come the 123's. You will be singing along in no time!

Totally Justin Roberts!!!!

And those Kids Bop Cds - YUCK!! I sure don't want to listen to a bunch of kids singing unless I am listening to my own kids.

Another vote for Laurie Berkner! She is awesome and my son loves her! She has a lot of upbeat songs as well as some slower ones. I made a slow song playlist for him to go to sleep to everynight and it totally helps with the bedtime routine. The upbeat ones are great for dancing at home and in the car.

Also, Milkshake is a good group for upbeat kid songs too!

We LOVE Carol Peterson's Sticky Bubble Gum cd. My son started listening to it when he was an infant and still loves it to this day (he is almost 4 now).

We LOVE the Laurie Berkner Band! The second one of their songs come on, my 2 year old comes flying into the room to dance! She has loved their music since she was born. My son really likes it too, but he is 4 and too busy to dance with us most days! It gives me a workout too since she insists that I dance with her!

Justin Roberts is my favorite! My son loves it too and has been a fan since he was about three months old. Our favorite CD is Meltdown, but we also have Pop Fly and Big Yellow Bus and enjoy those too.

Barenaked Ladies, They Might be Giants, Lisa Loeb and several other pop artists also have fun children's CDs that are good for adults too.

I second the suggestion for They Might Be Giants - LOVE THEM. My kids LOVE THEM. Even my husband can tolerate them. Our favorite is the 123s album.

You also may want to try Backyardigans, they have some catchy tunes.

Laurie Berkner is another that we listened to when my kids were younger. She's got some tunes that my kids loved to dance to.

My best advice - head over to your library and start checking out a few random CDs at a time and give them a try.

Our favorite is Justin Roberts. I actually find myself listening to it in the car when the kids aren't with me! Fun music and it makes me happy.
We also like Baby Loves Jazz, Wiggleworms, They Might be Giants, Putumayo, and the CD's from our Music Together classes. Just listen to music you love and try a new genre to shake things up.

my daughter is a lot older, but we have loved the KDS BOP cd's for a long time! It is songs that we kow but kids sing them. It is the best of both owrlds at our house. I like the songs for me plus they are clean and cute for my daughter with the little kids voices. We have the oldies CD, the Hot Hits CD, 70's CD, 80's CD, etc. Also another one of our favorites are the KidSongs CD. Google Kidsongs online and you will find them. They are hard finding in the stores! Good luck!

My kids LOVE Ralph's World! My daughter got a cd when she was born from my cousin. She's now 7 and we just rocked our 6th Ralph concert. We're in Chicago so it may be different (Ralph is from here) but it's nice that he offers a bunch of free concerts. We love Laurie Berkner too, but can't afford the ticket price. Sandra Boyton is AWESOME. You can get the board books too, but the book/cds are great. Blue Moo is bluesy, Dog Train is my daughter's favorite and my son (almost 3) loves Rhinocerous Tap. Philadelphia Chickens is pretty great too. Have fun! If you want to try things out, check out the library- they might have some of these you can check out and see if you like them. K

Whatever music you choose, go to Pandora.com, and you can create your own "radio station" based on the artist that you put in. For instance, I have Allison Kraus, the Beatles, etc. on my list, and I can listen to music from those and similar groups. It's easy and it's free!!
