Please I Need Help with Chigger Bites

My daughter was out in my sister field Tuesday and got eaten up with chigger on her private area. I brought some cortisone cream to put on them but she woke me 4 times last night crying they were itching her. Does anyone have any suggestions on what will stop them from itching.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I would like to thank you all for all your suggestions. I gave my daughter a bath in baking soda and a 1/2 tablet of benadryl and she slept through the night. This morning she told me she felt much better. Truly appreciate all your help. P.S. THE FINGER NAIL POLISH WAS SO PAINFUL TO HER SHE CRIED. I WOULD NOT SUGGEST THIS TO ANYONE

C.,

Try a cream called "Chiggerex". I found it at Wal Mart and it comes in a small white jar with a red top. It's good for any kind of insect bite and it does a great job relieving the itching. I had heard about the clear nail polish remedy, but from what I have read about the chiggers, they fall off the body right after they bite, so I don't think the nail polish is doing anything to the bug itself.

Good luck. I went thru this a few weeks ago and I know how miserable one can be. Take care.

Hi, I've been an RN for 35 yrs. , so we have little secrets for stuff. On private areas, Vagisil works!(Get extra strengh with aloe)Makes sense, right?? Stops burning & itching! My daughter has horrible reactions to bites & has always worked. (Benadryl, too, 1/2 to 1 tab, depending on weight)Worth a try!

I sell Avon and The ORIGINAL SSS Bath Oil "prevents" chigger and misquito bites better than the insect repellent. Go to www.youravon.com to order from an erep if you do not already have one.

There is over the counter stuff you can try to treat it though like calamine lotion.

Hope she feels better soon My son has eczema not fun watching them itch and in pain over something that is hard to control.

Topical Benadryl in a thin layer. I wouldn't reccommend any Benadryl during wake hours and try to use it minimally but it is very effective. I like the idea of topical because I figure it effects less other unaffected systems of the body.
Fingernail polish and vicks may not be good if she's really young but they work well if she's old enough.

Hey C.,
We have always put clear fingernail polish over the bites, this sufficates them and stops the itching.
Hope this helps.

There's a specific over the counter ointment for chigger bites that dries them up within a day. Unfortunately I'm at work and don't know the name, but it can be found at Wal-Mart/Target, etc and it's a small white container (about 2 inches tall) and has a red lid. It can be found with the other anti-itch type medicines.

Good luck!

Hi C.,

I found this website that has some answers:

http://www.healthcentral.com/peoplespharmacy/408/60929.html

I use Melaleuca oil or Mela gel in my 3 years old and works miracles! But I am not sure where can you find that since I am a customer of a health and wellness club company and I get it through them only (Customer direct company like Costco or San's club) but on the internet, you need a membership to buy here. May be you can find it somewhere else, it is olso called tea tree oil.

Hope it helps,

BENADRYL at bedtime! Just ask the pharmacist to formulate it for her weight. My kiddos, and myself, have a horrible time with mosquitos. Even using sprays! So I have resorted to the Benadryl at bedtime for my 3 yr old this week. She has a very large bite on the arch of her foot and woke me up Monday night itching and complaining about it. It will take just a couple of nights to get thru the worst of the itching.
