Please Help Us Name This Kitty!
So we have a kitten that is about 7 months old. She is all black and very sweet, but we can't agree on a name that everyone likes. I would like a name that is different, cute, or funny. So far the names that are out are Slinky, Midnight, and Shadow. Do any of you have any other ideas? She really needs a name since we have had her now for three weeks! Thanks in advance and I look forward to your answers!
So What Happened?™
Thank you for all your ideas! Today the right name came to us and my three girls all agree! Her name is going to be Belle like from Beauty and the Beast.

I had a black cat named Beetle once. She lived a full life. You could name her Coalette, Ink, Onyx, or my personal favorite Vader.

I had a black cat and named him Pyewacket. There was a black magic cat with that name in the movie "Bell Book and Candle" with James Stewart, Kim Novak and Jack Lemmon. My Pyewacket (we called him "Pye" for short) was the absolute sweetest. He passed away two years ago and I still miss him.

We had an all black kitty when I was little. We named it Kingsford (after the brand of charcoal). Matter of fact, my mom always tells the story of how it had been quiet for too long, so she called out to me and asked what I was doing (I was about 3yrs old). I very innocently answered back, "making Kingsford white!".................. She came to the room I was in and found me pouring a giant bottle of Elmers Glue all over poor Kingsford. LOL Goofy cat was sitting there with both ears flat letting me do it. ;0)
Some other ideas off the top of my head:
Hershey
Java
Twilight
Coco
Coal
Bandit

We had a trio of cats for many years. When the first one showed up, the family just couldn't agree on a name, so I christened him Anonymous. That started a trend, of course; the next two were Miscellaneous and Et Cetera. Nonny, Missy, and Cetty. Cetty is the only one living now - fifteen years old.
You could base a name on your kitty's character, too. Does she have any distinguishing characteristics? There is a cat in my neighborhood whose name I don't know but who I call Mr. Wiggles, because that's what he does when I pet him.

When I was a kid, my sister named her rabbit Tibbar (rabbit backwards), and her cat was Tac (cat backwards). Thank goodness she was never given charge of the dozens of puppies our female poodle mix mutt dog had over the years of my childhood (we always found homes for them..all but 2 from different litters..my brother got one and I got one)!
Having a dog named God woulda been hard to overcome I think!
Good luck!!

What about something related to her personality like Mischief, Snuggles, etc? I think that's the best way to name a pet is relate it to a funny personality trait or quirk they have.
I too don't like "common" names or names simply related to their color or markings.
Another idea is to name the kitty for someone you/your kids admire...what about a great female from history - Amelia (Amelia Earhart), an Olympic athlete, like Mia Hamm, or their favorite actress or singer, like Taylor Swift?

I just read my son's favorite book (again) last night and the cat's name is Mr. Pettibone. I loved it and thought if I had a b&W kitty, that is what I'd name it - boy or girl.
FYI - it is goofy's cat in "A Hot Dog Day" LOL!

See to pull off Stinky you must embellish. My daughter, who was 16 at the time, named our cat Stinky Hoosier III.
I can't name cats unless I meet them.
How about Sugar Britches?
Then you can call her little SB when she is being bad. :p

I just heard a cat name I thought was cute. Chiefie. Because don't all cats think they are the boss? Here are some other names we have used in the past:
Celeste because she is all white and looked so angelic as a kitten
Hadie because she ran around the house like a bat out of hell
Cymba b/c he looked like a lion
Alonzo after a favorite football player

What kind of meow does she have? If she's got a little dainty meow, then she could be Squeaky or Squeaker, or if she's got one of those rock-the-world meows, she could be Howler or something. As for the all black color, you could go with Storm or something. You could go ironic and call her Diamond. I had a professor once who named her black cat Singularity. You know, because a black hole is a quantum singularity? LOL You could do that if you're the nerd type. I bet you can come up with something great! Good luck!

Any movie/book/tv show y'all like as a family? Name her Cullen (Twilight) or Fineas (Fineas & Ferb).
Or a favorite food? Pickles, Peppperoni, Frigo (string cheese brand)

Jimmy Durante used to sing "Inka Dink." Your kitty could be Inkadink, but Ink or Inky for short. When you want to stretch it out, you can call her Inkadinkadoo.
