I would contact my local primary grade school and ask them if they could point you in the right direction. I know my daughter had to have speech therapy from kindergarten until 6th grade and her therapist at school was fantastic. Some of the speech therapy teachers at the schools also work outside of the district with private companies.
Hope that helps :)

My kids are seen by Sonia Ackerman. She is wonderful and while they also receive therapy at school it is nothing like what they get from her. She is on 31st Ave north of Peoria. Her phone is ###-###-####.

I had a problem with my daughter talking and the Dr. told me to put her in preschool. I went to the elementary school by my house and asked for the preschool information, once I got her in there they sent her to their speech classes and it seemed to do her alot of good.I would say to try the schools by your house and see what they have to offer you.

I wish you luck and hope this helps,If you would like you can email me.

Hi,

I can't point you to any one therapist, but call Phoenix Children's Hospital. They may have a resource center with information. They are a wonderful hospital. My daughter was hospitalized for a brief period in the summer and the care was absolutely wonderful.

I wish you the best of luck. If you would like to talk, just email me.

My 4 year old gets speech therapy through Phoenix Children's Hosptial. You can call their occupational therapy department at ###-###-#### to ask for an evaluation. You may need a referral from your pediatrician depending on your insurance carrier. The evaluation is pretty comprehensive and takes about 90 minutes or so. Then a recommendation for therapy is suggested.

Also - you can go to your local school district and ask for an evaluation. Since your son is 4 he is eligible for early intervention services through the school district. My son attends a special preschool with therapy built in.

Good luck!

What you need to do is contact the local school district, let them know that you feel your child could benefit from speech therapy. They'll include your son in the "Child Find" program and screen him for multiple issues. They cover everything from speech, language, occupational and physical therapy.

They do the initial screenings usually once a month. Then, if your child needs a full evaluation, they'll schedule it. After the evaluation(s), they'll then schedule a meeting with you and the various people who have evalutated your child to come up with IEP (independent education plan).

If your child qualifies in at least two areas, (speech and language each count as one), you'll be able to enroll your son into the preschool for free and they'll drop him off/pick him up for you. Also, it's a federal law that your evaluation and meeting process be completed within 60 days so if they drag their feet, begin making a pain of yourself.

We're going through the same thing with our son. He was evaluated and found to have delayed speech and language skills. Our final meeting to do his IEP is next week. I'm not sure which city you're in, but if you're in the Dysart SD, I can give you some phone numbers of whom to contact. PM me if you'd like them.

Go to your school district and have him tested. By law, they must service children at age 3 if they are eligible for speech/special ed. services.
Good luck
