Playroom for Tweens

There are multi use tables that can turn into a pool table, ping pong, air hockey, foosball, etc. How about dart boards. Ask the kids what things they would like. Don't forget about a good and durable sound system for music. Set up a board with a list of rules for conduct and clean up so when friends are over there won't be any misunderstandings about expectations.

Of the game tables fusball, I am not sure if that is how it is spelled seems to be a favorite and almost anyone can play a little. (the more sturdy the better because kids tend to get creative)

Why not ask the kids what they want?

Also, if cost is a concern where there is a possibility that the equipment won't be used, look for used things -- garage sales, Craigslist, thrift stores, etc. Lots of other people run into that situation, too, so you can get nice things for little cost. And then, if it doesn't get played with, you won't feel so bad.

Hi S., Instead of thinking "playroom" think "hang-out" room! Sturdy but comfortable funiture (I recommend a futon for future sleep-overs), a nice TV, game system, games like catch phrase, twister, monopoly, chess etc. a nice table for homework & poster/craft making, nutural colors on the walls with bright splashes of color...all things that will transition into the teen years and beyond. Believe me they grow up faster than you think and you don't want to re-do the room a couple of years from now. Best wishes.
