Playgroup Activities

Our church is putting together a new playgroup for toddlers and their moms to get together and I am looking for ideas for fun playdates. Besides going to the mall play areas, where do you go that your kids really enjoy and it is a fun outing for the moms? For playdates in homes or at the church, can you share any fun themes or activities? Our church is in Richardson, but we are open to traveling to surrounding areas for some of the events. Thanks so much for any suggestions you can share!

K., check out your local and extended metro area Science Museums. I took my grand daughters to The Science Museum here in Dallas when they were just big enough to walk. They had play pits to dig in indoors and the "big tooth" dental exhibit for toddlers to go through and interact. It was of keen interest to my toddlers. The Ft Worth Science Museum has an outdoors sand pit that has (big, as in not able to put into mouth) bones to dig up that are related to the dinosauers theme. Both museums also have and area set aside for toddlers to first grade (I believe) for bubbles fish (plastic) and all type of interest for tots. I feel educational activities at very young ages makes for good habits as they grow. A. D

K.,

One definite I would check into is Pump-it-up Jr. in Plano. We had my daughter's 2nd birthday there and all of the children loved it! I know they have open jump times. They are off of Park just East of 75.

Depending on the ages of the kiddos....indoor bounce house places are really fun. Also, the usual Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds outings are worth it....kids play, moms chat, and all go home happy! Planet Pizza is a fun one too---they have play area/ball pit, rides, and games as well as good pizza :)

Here area a two more ideas -- Chuck E. Cheese's (they open at 10 on week days and usually aren't crowded at all this early) and Owens Farm (especially in October for the pumpkin patch).
