Playground near Umstead Park/Glenwood Ave Area
Hi! I'm new to Raleigh and I am trying to find a park with a playground for my 13 month old. I've tried to look online, but there are so many parks listed and I don't know the area well enough to know what is close to where I live. I found a few streets that I recognized, but when I went to the park there wasn't any playground equipment. We have been to Pullen Park, which was nice, but a little far to drive for a quick outing to the park. I live off of Glenwood Ave. in the Umstead park area. Thanks for your help!

Hi S.,
A good place to go is, and I don't think it's too far from you, is Lake Shelly. It's got just what you are looking for -sand, swings and slides. Also, there you can go for a walk around the Lake and feed the ducks and such. It's really quite lovely. I take my 16 month old daughter there a few times a week and she just loves it! :) The address is: Shelley/Sertoma, 1400 W. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27612.

I would recommend either Laurel Hills Park (near Edwards Mill/Creedmoor Rd and Glen Eden) or Baileywick Park (just south of 540 and Creedmoor Rd.). Both have good playgrounds and walking trails. Lots to see with a little one. Good Luck.

Definitely try Laurel Hills Park (up on Edwards Mill). Also, we love Baileywick and Shelley Lake. Not sure how far those two are from you but my 2-year old loves them! They have great playground equipment, even separate ones for the toddlers versus the big kids. Good luck!

Laurel Hills Park is quite nice. I take my 13 month old there and she loves the swings, watching older children play and taking a short walk before heading back home.
