Plastic Pants for Swimming at the Reston Y

I recently joined the YMCA in Reston and they require both disposable swim diapers AND tight-fitting plastic pants for all children under 3. Does anyone know where I can find these plastic pants? Are the only ones they allow those old Gerber vinyl ones that we wore in the 70s over cloth diapers? Do non-disposable swim diapers that are both a diaper and a plastic cover all-in-one count for this sort of regulation?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! The training pants that several of you recommended from Target ought to be ok. They only come in one size, so I don't know how tight fitting they will be, but with a bathing suit on top of them who is to know the difference?

Yes, they are referring to the vinyl pants used over cloth diapers and you can find them in Target or Walmart. They are usually called Training Pants. I don't know if the non-disposable swim diapers count.

We swim at the Herndon Community Center where they have the same regulations. No one has ever checked but the plastic pants are an added measure to ensure a bowel movement doesn't get released in the pool. I believe they would have to close the pool if that happened.

Yes, those vinyl plastic ones are the ones they require! Babies R Us has them and I think Target might also.

E.,

I'm a member at the Reston Y, and no one's ever said anything to me about ds2's diaper. I put a water diaper on her, with her swimsuit over it. Unless this is a very-new rule, I think you'll be fine with your baby/toddler in just a water diaper.

Good luck.

You can also buy swimsuits with diapers built-in at Target (AND use a disposable underneath).

Kudos to them for requiring this. Although a swim diaper will contain a BM, it does not prevent water from passing thru the diaper, around the waste, and back into the pool. I wish they would pull swim diapers from the market as they are a very false sense of protection. You might as well let your child drink from the toilet bowl.
