We live by Hill AFB. and we are gearing up for summer. I have a 2 yr old. she loves the out doors--and we are an active family. I am wondering about good places to go hiking that are family friendly? we have a hiking pack for dd but we also want to let her get out and hike sometimes too. We are also looking for places to camp that are not too far since gas has gone up so much. Send me the places you love to go, and tell me ones that haven't been a good idea--- Thanks!!

What can I do next?

thanks for the great places!! We went camping and hiking at Antelope Island the first weekend after my dh got home. We are planning some other great hikes too. It is great to know I have "friends" who can help me find the things I am looking for to help my family. Thanks again!!

There is a really nice hike called Adams canyon in layton. Are you familiar with the water tank that says Layton on the side of highway 89? The hike starts just east of that tank. To get to it however you have to turn toward the mountain on the street just north of the watertank and wind your way back down. Anyways, it is a lot of switchbacks right at first and then some kind of tricky spots ending at a waterfall but my 2 year old was able to hike the whole thing. Just take plenty of water as it is mostly sun on the most difficult parts depending on what time of day you go. There is another hike that takes off at the top of 21st street. I haven't gone on that one but my husband took my son. He said that one would be difficult for a 2 year old to hike but not too bad to carry in a pack. Also as far as close camping spots. If you go up Ogden canyon there is a North fork campground near Eden/Liberty. It is beautiful up there but be careful where you camp as a lot of the spaces are close to the river. Have you been to the Uintahs? That is amazing camping/fishing/hiking but it is about 2 hours away up Weber canyon. The gateway to the Uintahs is a town called Kamas. It does cost to get into the Uintahs but you can camp anywhere in there for free off the trails. Or there are established campgrounds that you can pay to stay in. Let me know if you want any more info on any of these!

Hey C., It's me, J.. If you go to www.localhikes.com it lists several in the area. Also www.trails.com and type in Ogden trails and Parks. These are both good sites. My husband takes my kids up waterfall canyon in ogden quite a bit. I havn't gone in a while because of Emma. Also Adams canyon and Fernwood trail are good. Hope this helps. Maybe we could all go together sometime!

We love to go to antelope island. While camping there you can also go down the the farm, or to the visitors center, or you can see the herd of buffalo. There are also some nice places to hike up ogden canyon that are pretty easy to do, especially with children. GL!

I live in Ogden. Right by us we have Mount Ogden Park / Golf Coarse / hiking trails. There is also a hike up to "WaterFall Canyon" Its about a mile and a half hike to a decent waterfall. It is very popular for a lot of people in this area. It's still wet this time of year with all the snow we got this past winter. Congrats on getting hubby home! have a great summer.
