I had previa with my first. We didn't find out about it until I was about 6 months along. I was lucky to not have any bleeding, but was working as a waitress before I found out. That got to be painful and I quit...so then I took it easy and I think that's why I didn't have any bleeding. The great news is that a lot of times it corrects itself - as it did with me. The other lucky thing is that I was geared up for a c-section for nearly three months and then a week before my due-date the doctor said it was corrected and I could probably have my baby vaginally. So, take it easy, gear up for a c-section so that if you do have one it won't be a disappointment, and think positive!
(I was glad I had placenta previa because I ended up having a c-section for another reason but I had thought about it for so long it wasn't so disappointing.)

Yes I had this same condition many years ago. It is very important that your condition be monitored. I am sure your doctor is doing this. No one should examine you vaginally. I not only had this but I also have a blood condition which is very slow clotting which made mine even more dangerous. I would be more watchful in the later months of the pregnacy and has the baby grows. Sometimes the placenta will tear just a bit and bleeding will occur. However your doctor will be monitoring your condition. Be patient don't get excited and enjoy your pregancy. Sometimes as the baby grows it can pull or the placenta may move toward the wall and call a partical placenta prev. I had a beautiful baby boy 26 years ago. Although I was high risk I had excellant doctors that monitored my condition and took caution every step of the way. Please keep us updated we are never given more the we can handle. I kept this in the forefront of my mind the whole time.

My sister had it all the way through her first pregnancy and had episodes where she would be bleeding and I also had a next door neighbor that had it and episodes of bleeding. They were both put on bedrest until the day they delievered their baby. Just be on the clam side and sometimes the placenta will move away and if not then they will schedule a csection. You will probably be monitored throughout your pregnancy.

I had it, probably as early as you did. The doctor told me not to worry about it, but of course I did. The ultrasound lady told me that 85% of the time it moves up, well not actually the placenta, as your uterus grows it should shift. I think mine moved at about 25-30 weeks when I started getting really big. A lot of people I talked to that had it, they also said it moved, but I never talked to someone that went all the with it. My doc told me when I had it no sex. Everything turned out fine but I did end up having a c-section anyways, not because of previa but my baby was too big (9 lbs!). Good luck and try not to worry too much! Congrats on baby! =)

This is very common early in pregnancy, and it should move up where it should be later on. If you have any spotting during the pregnancy, that would be the biggest indication of a problem.

Chances are, your placenta will eventually move as your pregnancy progresses. However, not in my case. I began to spot at 24 weeks when mine was discovered. Docs couldn't decide if was an abruptio or previa - hospitalized for a week, sent home for bedrest. Kept "spotting" every 8-10 days or so, until another big bleed happened at 31 weeks. Hospitalized again, this time until delivery at 35 weeks. This was NOT easy, especially with an 18 month old at the time. My case is probably the exception to many out there, however. Best of luck to you, and if you do have a previa, try to take it easy and be thankful for each passing day.

I had placenta previa during the early stages of two of my pregnancies. Both time it moved, and I went on to have regular deliveries. I was never told not to have sex though...

Hi J.,

I also had placenta previa and the only "problem" I had was that I had to have a c-section--they can't deliver the placenta before the baby. I had no bleeding and no other concerns.
