I have to order 25 pizzas for my office and they will give me a discount and charge the normal delivery fee. How much is appropriate to tip? At home I usually tip $2.00 per pizza, but $50.00 seems a bit much. I know that they have to carry a bunch of pizzas, but it is just one trip. What would you guys tip? Thanks.
Consensus in the office was that we would tip $25.00. He carried them in the front door and we put them on a cart then we took them where they needed to go. He seemed happy with his $25.00 tip so I am happy. I do tip $2..00 per pizza for myself, but that is never for just a single pizza, so I don't feel I am shorting them too much. Especially since I am a five minute drive for them. I would do it myself but it isn't worth it to load and unload all three kids.
Personally I will not tip my delivery person 20%, because that is what I tip at restaurants. Yes he has to drive out and use his gas, but I am sorry delivering pizzas is not the same (IMO) as waiting on a table of 5. I tip well when we eat out. I only tip less that 20% when the issue is with the server ( I do not hold them accountable for kitchen issues).

You tip 20% of what the bill would be without the discount. If you can't afford to tip properly, you can't afford to order pizza.
20% of the total before any coupons or discounts are applied is my minimum tip whether it's dine-in, delivery, or take-out.

I would probably give the guy a $20. He's making ONE delivery and someone will likely help him bring them in. Don't forget he gets an hourly rate too, so when he's accustomed to a $2-$5 tip per delivery, a $20 bill will be a great bonus for the afternoon.
The Delivery Fee does NOT go to the driver it goes to the business to cover their costs of added liability of having a driver. Most drivers only get slightly above Minimum and work for tips. They still have to pay for their own gas & auto insurance. You should pay them at the MINIMUM the 15-20% of the bill BEFORE discount, I personally would treat the driver extra special b/c it is a 25 Pizza order!! Believe me if you don't treat them well they will mention it to their boss and you may not be given the discount in the future and your office maybe known for being rude. Remember treat others as you wish to be treated. Why should the driver be shortchanged especially since you are already getting a discount?
I have been a Pizza Delivery Gal! It is a PAIN to deliver pizzas, especially that amount. In order to have the job you have to have insurance obviously - and you have to pay MORE! They do not get paid well and the tip takes care of the gas and insurance extras. I would keep with your standard tipping practices - discount or no discount.

for 25 pizzas? 15 to 20% of the bill. That's A LOT of pizzas to carry in. If the person is going up stairs or in an elevator and will have to make multiple trips? 20% of the bill...maybe more...
I am typically a generous tipper...even on pizza deliveries...rain, snow, etc. delivered on-time and hot? 20% more than 5 pizzas? I have given as much as $30. especially when the pizzas are right, hot and delivered on time!!

I was a waitress for years and it's no more effort to serve a filet mignon and martini than it is to serve a burger and soda yet if you go by % of the bill, the tip is way more for the first. So when I tip, I take into account the effort vs soley the % of the bill. And as an ex waitress, I'm a very good tipper. I'm surprised people are saying it should be 20%. He has to do one drive back and forth and maybe 5 trips up and down if you are even upstairs. (He can't carry 5 pizzas at once? I can...) So if I figure $10/pizza at 5 "times/trips", 20% is $10. That seems too low though. I'd go kind of in the middle at $30. BUT - is this a minor blip on your company's expense lines vs a huge difference to the driver in his daily pay? If your company has more than 25 people, the extra $10 or $20 is nothing... And they did discount. So if you can get away with giving $50, you'll make him really happy and sounds like you won't look like a ridiculous overtipper either.
I agree with kiddiepshrink. $20 to $25. He's not delivering them one or two at a time. He won't carry them in one or two at a time. He'll carry 10 or so in at a time.

At least $20.00. He is only driving one trip but he will not be stacking 20 pizzas to carry in in one trip. He will be making several trips in from his car. And fyi. $2 is really low for a tip. They pay for their own gas.
I always tip $5 for delivery, even if it is only one pizza. $2 seems really low. For a large order like that I would at least double the tip, giving them $10, but if you can afford it $20 would be better.
Yes, usually the delivery fee goes straight back to the company. In other cases, it or a percentage of it is paid to the driver, for the very reason that many people do not tip well so this is their assurance that the driver makes a decent wage. I personally know a pizza shop owner that does this for this reason. People regularly under-tip (or don't tip) pizza delivery drivers, it's a fact. It's also an added service to bring food to you, and should be compensated as such. Even as an owner of a catering company, I get tipped for delivering the food, that's how the industry works (If I have employees working with me, the tip is split among us). But I don't get 20% unless I go over and above what they asked, because we figure in the cost of delivery on the bill.
He most likely loaded the pizzas himself, drove carefully to get them to you still hot and in tact, and then will be unloading them himself, too. He also did a certain amount of quality control to assure you get the pizza you ordered. There is a certain amount of skill involved in delivering that much food at once, but those of us who do it for a living do seem to make it look relatively effortless, don't we?
I'm glad you asked this question, many people wouldn't care at all. For 25 pizzas, let's assume about $10 per pie after they discounted their product and delivered it to you, I would tip AT LEAST $30-40.

I would give $25, assuming he can drive them all from the pizza place to your office in one trip. While for a small delivery, $2 per pizza is good, tipping $50 for a single trip delivery doesn't seem necessary to me.
I think 20% of the bill for pizza delivery is excessive, I would say $25 would be fine.
