The same thing happened to my daughter. She had pink eye, I used the drops, finished the days but then it came back a few days later. I repeated the drops again and it went away for good. Try doing the drops for 7 days, thats how long they were perscribed for my daughter. Also put two drops in each eye. Also if she is rubbing her eyes or putting anything to her eyes, its bound to come back again since the bacteria is not fully gone and just contaminating the eyes again. Try the second dosage and if it still doesint go away for good then call your ped again. Good luck!

There are three types of pinkeye--bacterial, viral (usually develops after a cold) and allergic. Since it was just treated, it likely is allergic. You may have to take her to the allergist, but you definitely need a doctor's note for school. I was a school nurse for years, and no matter how much the nurse may understand the allergic pinkeye thing, the staff are sure they will catch something, and the note is really necessary. The swollen eye is also an allergy symptom.

Yes!!! My kids will get pink eye from there allergies if they keep itching their eyes. I use drops called zaditor when I see it starting to itch and then the pink eye doesnt happen any more. ask your allergist. Zaditor is now over the counter but there are prescription drops too. I use them on myself too because i am prone to pink eye from the allergies. I think today I am going to use it because my eyes have been itchy!

Yuck- she probably has it again! Make sure that she washes her hands a lot and keeps them out of her eyes. More importantly, wash all of her bedding and towels. You would be amazed at where that gunk can survive!

One of the best remedies I found for pink eye, or any other eye irratants, was used tea bags. I would make tea, let the bags cool and place them on the eyes. Apparently, there is some chemical in tea that releases any irratants or poisons in the eyes. I can tell you it works, as we've used this remedy for 25 years, and we all preferred it to drops.

Getting reinfected with pink eye is NOT uncommon an allergies would not be my first guess.

When I was in junior high, I don't know how but I got pink eye. I'd never even heard of it before a friend started freaking out that I had it. Didn't know how contagious it was, either. So I was sent down to the nurse's station who didn't take me seriously, figuring I was trying to get out of class or something because they hadn't had a case of pink eye in over ten years. However, one look at me and she also freaked and sent me straight home.

I was out of school for weeks with a visit back to school for a day or two here and there before being shuffled back home. I kept giving myself pink eye because I was always rubbing my eyes, so I'd transfer it from one eye to the other back and forth. It always started red and swollen before it developed into the crusty grossness. Finally after constantly treating both eyes, it went away. So I went back to school, only to find out that about one in 12 kids was home sick with pink eye, too. Then I'd get it again from school. Back to the meds. Finally cleared up. Back to school. Oops! Pink eye again! Back home and on the meds. ARGH! That happened THREE times before I was either diligent about NOT touching my face (I'm always rubbing or scratching something or moving hair off my face) or somehow the contagion was contained.

Thankfully that's the only time in my life I've had pink eye and I have allergies and rub my eyes all the time so I wouldn't expect the two are related or I'd have pink eye all the time.

Lesson learned? Pink eye is EXTREMELY contagious and it's easy to get reinfected. I'd keep treating her eyes and if you do take her to an allergist, make sure you let them know she's had pink eye so it doesn't spread.

I used the Tobramycin for pink eye and allergic eyes and it worked great. you should check the allergies.

yes, it is possible that it is allergy related.
it is also possible that if she is in a daycare setting that another child has not shown signs but carries pinkeye, and she picked it up again. sorry. it does go around... and around...

Dear Ms. P pink eye is contagious you need to change all of your child's linens and towels until the pink eye disappears or else you will continue to have her re infect her eyes. Also make sure she is not rubbing her eyes and make sure she is washing her hands and you as well. Anywhere she lays her head change pillow cases sheets eveyrything good luck it will disappear with the medication within a few days.

it is quite possible that it is allergies, or viral. many times when my daughter has a cold, there's not more places for the mucus to flow from because she is so stuffed up that stuff comes out of her eyes. you could also try an eye wash. if it was bacterial, it would've gone away, and some of it did.

Dear R., I learned that if you touch your(runny) nose with your hand and then rub your eye you can get pink eye. We spread it to ourselves. Encourage your daughter to use tissues(once only) and as we are all doing now, hand sanitizer! My best, Grandma Mary
