my four year old daughter caught pink eyes from my 20 month old who had them last week.... my 4 year old is much worse and cant stop crying saying that they burn.... she wont let me put hot or cold wash rags on her or anything.... yes, she has started the eye drops, but that takes awhile and i feel so helpless.......

Any suggestions to make her feel better, what did you do?

What can I do next?

Pink Eye is horrible!! It DOES burn and itch...

warm wash clothes to get the gunk out helps...have her lay down and relax...tell her the wash cloth WILL HELP with the burning...it really will..

wash all the pillows - yes the pillows, sheets, blankets and comforters...wash all your walls down as well as door knobs and handles - anything people touch - bannisters - all of it - as the virus can be anywhere...

Tylenol will help with the pain (my eyes felt like they were going to explode AND itched like there was NO TOMORROW)...the warm wash clothes DO help!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Take a clean wash cloth and some JOHNSON'S BABY SHAMPOO in a sink of warm water. Wash out her eyes and the pink eye will go away. It has to be Johnson's. A pediatrician told me this one. And it does work.

children's ibuprofen, warm wash clothes. I would ask my pediatrician for numbing eye drops, but that's not necessary bc our ped always scripts a rx with the numbing stuff already in it.... benadryl for the itch.... might make her sleepy too so she'll snooze through it (or it could make her extra-ultra-hyper which is oh-so-much-fun for Mom!). Additionally, if she hasn't seen the ped herself, I would take her in just to make sure she hasn't ALSO scratched her cornea or anything. I definitely wouldn't put Johnson's in her eyes - it contains a no. of petrochemicals as well as carcinogens formaldehyde and doxane due to the chemical rxns that occur from the initial ingredients (see current lawsuit info if interested) during manufacturing. Good luck! And have her wash her hands often!

I always used cool washcloths for their eyes instead of warm. Soppy wet with cool water helps loosen the goo and wipes the eye crust off. then put it in the wash,, dont let anyone use her towels or blankets or pillows. Sometimes an extra long splash time in a tub of warm warter helps too.. It will go away,, it just takes time. wash hands all the time!
