I hope everyone is doing good and getting ready for the Holidays!

My 6 year old son has had pink eye for almost 2 weeks now. He has been to the doctors and was given eye drops twice and this still has not cleared it up. A few moms and grandmas have told me to use some expressed breast milk and it will clear it up quickly? Has anyone else heard of this or done this? Has it worked? At this point I am willing to try anything to help soothe my poor son. Thanks for the advice!!

What can I do next?

I have done it with my youngest two (both were born with blocked tear ducts that got infected occasionally) and it worked quickly and effectively! Breastmilk is AMAZING stuff!

I was treated for over a year by various medical professionals for pink eye. My problem was actually allergies. Just something else to consider. Good luck.

I've treated my own pink eye with my own milk. I found the easiest way to do it is to keep it in a bottle in the fridge. Shake it up before each application (at least three times a day, but you can do more) and milk the nipple of the bottle to get it to drop into your eye. The cold milk feels really good on the hot scratchy eye, and using the baby bottle creates a lot less mess than using an eye dropper. Just stick it back in the fridge until the next application. I saw results faster than with any drop or ointment I've used before.

Pink eye is going around right now so that could also be why it's hard to get rid of. Both of mine had it within the past two wks. My daughter had it in both eyes. I have heard that about breast milk but I don't know if it works. Is there maybe an antibiotic the dr. can give him? My husband has problems getting pink eye and it gets it on a regular basis. I don't know why either. He also has asma so he gets sick easier. They say it's very easy to get pink eye but I wish you a lot of luck getting rid of it for your son. I would also maybe check with another dr. if your current one isn't helping. Take Care

It sounds crazy, but I just saw on the tv show, the doctors, that breastmilk is a great treatment for pink eye. They said that the anitbodies in the milk help with the pink eye. Good luck.

The same thing happened to me with my eye drops - I started wearing some new contacts and I thought it was the contacts, but the problem did not go away and I found out that I am allergic or sensitive to the brand of drops (Renu)...so I switched brands (OptiFree) and my eyes cleared up!

I never tried breastmilk, but my mom used to make a cup of chamomille tea let it cool off some, put a washcloth in and out that on the eye. That helped a lot too and it went away after 2-3 days. We never used eyedrops.
And yes, it could be allergies, like another mom already mentioned- I have allergies and can't take all the different eye drops they offer to help with the itching...

Hi C. - A few years ago I had what presented as pink eye so I started treating it as such. It didn't go away and I finally saw an eye doctor - turns out is wasn't pink eye after all but my allergies acting up and it was affecting my eyes. He had to put me on a steroid eye drop and an antihistime eye drop to clear it up. I'd take the little one to an eye doctor just to see if it is really pink eye. You do have to remember to wash whatever they are sleeping on every day while they are being treated as they can get reinfected by what is on the blankets, pillows etc. I would get a new bath towel and put it over my pillow every night. Good luck and I hope it clears up soon.

I have used this and it does work very well. My son (18 months then) and I had it at the same time. His cleared up in one day mine was gone in three.

Just an FYI: I get a lot of cold sores and a short week after the pink eye I started to get a cold sore. I tried breastmilk and cured it in 1 day. three applications only.

Breastmilk works wonders

Hello C., this happened to my son and we couldn't figure out what to do. We finally took him to another doctor because we were traveling and we discovered that he was alergic to the eye drops and/or he was suffering from allergies! We stopped giving him the eye drops and and the redness and pain went away. We then took him to an allergist and he is allergic to grasses and trees. Maybe you should ask your doctor about allergies. I hope this helps. A.
