My daughter had them when she was 5. We took her to a doctor & he gave a simple prescription they went away after about a week. No one else in the family had to be treated or contacted them. She got them from swimming in a river. This was just a freshwater river and we never went back there again.

Pin worms are picked up from other kids, in the dirt and not so good potty habits. Good had washing will keep from getting them. I have four kid's all adults now., but went through this a few times. They have over the counter remadies. Local clinic will treat the whole house hold with a single pill for everyone. Clean all linen with heat, hot water, hot dryer, after a while, they will go away on there own most of the time. Stay calm it is a very common thing.

call your doctor and ask for the medication for pinworms. It is called vermox and it is a chewable tablet. You take one today and then we always repeat it in 1 week.

Yes! I have had to deal with those things twice now with my oldest son Corbyn, who is 7. What I did was bought him some over the counter medicine called Reese's Pinworm medicine from Walgreens & ever since I treated him, we have not seen any. Good Luck!

Hi R.,
Unfortunately I don't know of any home remedies to get rid of pinworms...but it is considered and infection, and you can get antibiotics from the Dr. to treat it. Everyone in the family should be treated because it is so easily spread, and you should use showers vs baths until you know they are gone. Also, even though it is a pain, wash all bed linens, pajamas, etc. in hot water regularly so that eggs etc. can't survive and reinfect. Good luck! This is one of those not so fun or easy things we moms have to deal with (lice, ringworm, etc.)! Hope this helps!

I've been on Flagyl and couple of times. Isn't it an antibiotic? What she needs is an anti-parasite medication. Flagyl is VERY strong and has some pretty intense side effects, so I would consult the pediatrician before you try that. And, yes, it is obtained through a prescription.

From what I was able to find out on the internet you should call your doctor.
Because pinworms usually crawl out of the anus while a child sleeps, the tape test is an easy way to find pinworms. It's best to do this right when your child wakes up and before he or she uses the bathroom or bathes. To do the tape test, your doctor will give you a tongue depressor with a piece of clear tape on the end. You will press the end of the tongue depressor--with the tape on it--against your child's anal skin. Then the tape is placed sticky-side down on a glass slide. If your child has pinworms, your doctor will be able to see the eggs with a microscope. You may even see the worms around the anus during the tape test.Good luck.

i had pinworms as a child and mom took me to the doctor. he gave me a red pill and every one in the family had to take them too. also after the pill is taken wash all bedding and clean the house well, where the baby was or you have touched after changing the baby. as the eggs cling onto you and what ever contact they come into. if you have pets have them checked too or at least worm them as they could be the source or may have got them from the home. i know its freaky to see them for the first time and gives you the heeby jeebys as it did me. dont worry the doc will get rid of them for you. its a problem that has been around for hundreds of years and they have this perfected.

My 4 yr old son had a bout of this and we got a prescription from his doctor, that is the only known cure.
Additionally, the worms have a @30 day life cycle and is spread by the ingestion of eggs. They are so small and can not be seen, baby touches something where the eggs are and at some point puts hands in mouth and wallah! pin worms in the digestive tract. My doctor suggested not sharing foods (example bags of chips or cookies where mulitple people may put their hands into and germs are spread), use a nail brush to clean under nails throughout the day, be careful to notice if baby is scratching the bootie area as eggs are there from deposits throughout the night and then can be spread from baby's hands to everything touched, disinfect everything in the house (sheets, doorknobs, faucets, toys, etc). Be advised that this is very easily spread and the entire family may need to be treated as well.

GOOD LUCK!

Call your pediatrician. My daughter had them several months ago. The pediatrician gave us a chewable tablet. She gave us enough to treat the entire family with 2 doses. We had to take the second tablet 1 or 2 weeks later. Make sure you strip all the beds and wash everything. The eggs can live for a while longer and can re-infect you. The pediatrician also told us that the sunlight kills the eggs, so she had us open all the blinds in the apartment to let the sunlight in.

Hi,
You need a medication called Pyrantal (it comes in liquid form and it's very inexpensive). You may be able to get it over the counter. I would call a Pharmacy and ask the Pharmacist if he has it. Another medication is Flagyl and it might be able to be purchased OTC. GOOD LUCK.

Do you have pets (cats) that come in and out? Usually these are carried by cats and as they sit around on furniture, etc they leave the eggs and worms. I do not suggest a home remedy, but proper medication from your pediatrician or your local health dept for treatment. Take the animal to a vet or a pet supply store (Petco, Petsmart) that would offer treatment for it.

R.,

It's been years and years and years (my kids are teens now) but they both had pin worms. Please take care of it quickly as one of them was skin and bones and then when we got rid of the worms she got chunky and kind of struggled with her weight after that. There should be something in the pharmacy you can purchase over the counter; however, what worked best for my girls was via a prescription from the pediatrician.

Good luck!

There is an over the counter pin worm medication at the drug store. Garlic is also a remedy. We did both for our daughter and they worked.

A friend of mine's daughter had pin worms when she was a couple months older than your daughter. She called the local pharmacy and they have something behind the counter that they can give. If I recall correctly, everyone in the family has to take it too. Call the closest 24 hour pharmacy and they will be able to help you. Good Luck!

Go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist they sell an over the counter remedy that worked for my daughter when she was about nine years old - going barefoot in infected mud or soil that is infected is usually how kids contract them----- keep shoes on and always wash their hands when playing etc.. But if you want to get something prescription maybe the nurse at your pediatric office and just get you a prescription over the phone...........L.
