Our son will be 4 in June and we are thinking we may want to start piano lessons. We are wondering if its too early to start? If its a good time to start we don't know where to get lessons. Does anyone have advice on a good age to start piano lessons? Does anyone know of a good place for lessons in rio rancho or on the northwest side of abq? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My mom has been teaching piano for over 40 years, she usually doesn't start her students until 1st grade because then they are reading and their hands are bigger. I know there are different methods that start kids earlier. I would recommend just a music class for your 4 year old. That way he can get familiar with music and rhythm.

Our 7 year old son started piano lessons when he was in first grade (age 6). He did well in the beginning and is still going strong. We have been thinking about starting our 5 year old daughter, but I think she's still not ready. Most teachers (I believe) like to start kids when they are comfortable reading. You'll probably just have to take into account the personality and dedication of your child. We're on the NE side of ABQ, so unfortunately I don't have any teacher recommendations. Good luck!

Congrats on the adoption! My daughter is 4 & takes dance from a lady that also teaches piano to this age group. She has a studio that is much too far for you (Tramway) but I can tell you that it's not too early - at this age it's more about learning the notes & how to place your fingers & such.
