Hi I was wondering if anyone knew a photographer in the downers grove area that does not charge a fortune? My daughter is getting ready to take her senior pictures and I would like to have someone do some outdoor shots. Maybe someone just starting out or that does side jobs. I just can't afford the $300.00 - $400.00 some of these places want. Plus I really like natural shots. I don;t like the fake poses. If you know of anyone that may be interested please let me know

Thanks moms

Hi M.,
My brother-in-law is local and takes FANTASTIC pictures. He is super reasonable (under $100 that's for sure! his site says starting at $40) and you get access to all pictures for your saving and printing. He does great with natural/candid shots and especially loves using the outdoors. Here's his website and his album site (you can see LOTS of samples here!)...

Congrats to your daughter on her senior year...so much to look forward to!

Hi M.!

I am a new photographer and while I am starting my business, I am offering FREE sessions. The only thing that I ask is that I am able to use the pictures in my portfolio. You will have access to all of the pictures that we take and be able to order the ones that you want without having to meet a package minimum. You would just pay the vendors cost for the pictures. I have a vendor that I highly recommend but you would have the option of choosing which vendor that you want.

If you are interested, please feel free to contact me. I work with natural light and would be happy to meet up with you at a location of your choosing and/or I could recommend a nice place.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,
N.

I don't know of anyone in your area, but we are in the same predicament. My daughter saw a friends Senior Pictures on Facebook and really liked them. She messaged him about them and he said that his mom and sister had done them. They were great and much more personal than a studio's. My daughter now wants us to do hers. We are planning a trip to the mountains to take some shots, (we live in Colorado), and the wildflowers are in bloom now. She loves the mountains, trees, wildflowers and anything rustic. She is looking at studio pictures for ideas for settings, poses, props, clothing and making a list etc... You could even go to a park or botanic gardens or something like that to take your pictures. With digital camers, you can look your pictures over immediately, delete not so great ones, and shoot till your hearts content and not pay for film and developing. You or our daughter can then photoshop pictures before taking them to be printed. This is what we are doing. Hope this helps.

I just suggest you keep looking! I had a former daycare client of mine who did family pics a few times with a Minneapolis photographer (I saw the pics thru the photographers blog link the parents gave me). Very casual...nice weather times were outdoors...last session, after Dad returned from his year in Iraq, was in their own simple backyard/culdesac of their own neighborhood. This gal's style is to catch those sim[le in between moments, in addition to casual poses...just what I was looking for for my own dd senior pics we will do in the next year.

I inquired and her price is $200 for the sitting and includes the disk and rights to take it anywhere to get pics printed. You own them (high res and edited shots...20 I think)...and you can still have her do prints for you...very reasonable (25 wallets for $30...8X10 was $10, etc).

I just tell you this as I thought it would be way out of my hopes for pricing and was pleasantly surprised. We are thinking of getting family picture pricing as well for next spring? I just love how casual the shots are. She does families, weddings, babys, pregnancy, seniors, etc.

I suggest you just look and inquire...you may be surprised!

Check out Family Focus by Beth. She is listed on here as a Mom owned business and does a great job. Her fee for family pics is $125 and for that you get a cd with all your pics, you then print what you want. We used her for family pics in March and were very happy.

Check out Francine's website. She is out of Glen Ellyn. I'm biased b/c she's my cousin's wife, but I've referred many people to her. Her pix are beautiful and natural. Good luck either way!

Dear M.: Congratulations! You must be so proud of your daughter! My husband, Cary, has been photographing for years and recently decided to open a side business. His speciality is natural shots. In fact, he had a wedding gig just last weekend which he landed b/c the Bride and Groom had seen his outdoor shots on Facebook and were drawn to the spontaneity and character he captures. He'd be pleased to talk with you about what you might need and what he could offer. I'll email you privately with his contact information. Best wishes, T.

Try getting in touch with a photography student from your local college. They usually charge little to nothing because they NEED to meet certain criteria for their classes. I know it's summer now, but most community colleges offer non-students photography classes. Good luck!

A former co-worker is just starting to expand her portfolio. She is downtown, but I know that she travels. She is excellent/professional and affordable. She did my wedding and we couldn't have been more happy with the results. I also didn't want all the "posed" shots and wanted something that looked natural - she fit the bill.

Hello-

I am a stay at home mom that does photography on the side...primarily newborn photography that is starting to branch out into other types of sessions and I would love to start doing Senior Sessions as well. I am just over the IN boarder so I would be about an hour from you. While I have never done a Senior Session it pretty much is all the same...just different poses for different ages. Also, to find a place to take pics (since I am not familiar with the downers grove area...but I'm sure you know some places...parks, lakes, or just places with nice landscape). If you want to message me on here or on facebook under Devon M. Photography we could discuss it more. With me you do not pick what pics you want and which you don't...I will put all of the retouched images on a disc and give you copywrites to do with them as you wish. Please contact me so that we can discuss this in further detail :)
