I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any laws/rules regarding having someone who is not a member of your immediate family live in your house on a permanent basis?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to those that answered the question asked. I knew that there was nothing we could do about the cars, but am happy to have the "single family" description clarified. KUDOS!

Yes it is legal so long as the house as not been divided into seperate living facilities..such as having a seperate enterance. Wether or not the gentleman is paying rent is of no concern. You may have a non relative room mate so long as the above conditions are met. It would be the same as two girls sharing a house. While extra cars on the street can be tiredsome the street is public property and you can not dictate who parks where.

I don't know if it's legal or not. I know it's a bummer to have cars always parked by your driveway...we have a similar situation with cars, even to sometimes parked right behind our driveway where it is hard to back out without hitting one. I would maybe mention the parking issue, but not concern yourself with the other issue. It really is up to them if they have a guest or not, and you wouldn't want to make trouble for someone unneccessarily.

I am not sure about any laws pertaining to this kind of situation, but do you have a homeowner's association for your neighborhood? They might be able to give you some advice and at least discourage all the cars that are parked in front of your house. Good luck. That would drive me crazy too.

I am sure there is no law against whom lives in your home- If they are renting it may be against the lease- but that's about it. I was a house guest in my mothers single family home for 3 years- and my sister had her hubbys best friend there for 2 years.- and maybe this guy is a permanent resident- who knows? If they aren't bothering your property it really shouldn't matter. And if you don't want his car parked there- then put yours in that spot- so he can't park there.

who's to say this person isnt family? even so, single family residence only means that it isnt apartment style or duplex etc. has no bearing on who can actually reside there.

im guessing you have not gotten to know these neighbors.
guests and parking are beside the point. anyone anywhere can have guest in any number whenever they choose. so long as they are not parking in your private drive.
