Ok. Here is my question. I had my baby nine months ago. I had a period last month for the first time. I am a nursing mom. Then this month I did not get it yet. I am 12 days late. I did do a test last week to see if I am pregnant and it was a no. I am wondering if this has happened to anyone or if I should call the doctor. Also when I had my daugther I did not get my first period until she was 10 or 11 months. I am just hoping it came and won't come again, and the test was right. Please let me know if this has happened to you, my friends have never had this happen. Thanks :)

What can I do next?

My period did not return until my daughter was 8 months and then I was on a consistant 6 week cycle for 3 more cycles (Then I got pregnant again, but that's another story). I found that the book "Taking charge of your fertility" really helped me understand what was happening and I was able to tell pretty much right away if I was having another extended cycle and when I was actually pregnant again.

Although I didn't get my period during the months I BF any of my 3 kids, I was warned that I could still get pregnant. Just be cautious and use other forms of birth control, regardless of whether you are getting your period or not.

Between my 1st & 2nd child I did not get my period until around 8-10 months and then it was very abnormal - coming every 6-8 weeks until I got pregnant. THis also happened between my 2nd and 3rd. I was breast feeding as well. Have you asked your DR.?

Yes! People can be quite irregular after childbirth, especially those BF. I do Natural Family Planning, so I really knew my cycle, then read several things about it. I would suggest that.

When you are nursing your period can always be irregular. If you don't get it again then I would do another test. My friend had to take 3 tests before it finally showed a positive result and she was in fact pregnant the other 2 times, just got a false negative. She finally knew she had to be when her clothes started getting tight :)

Yep. Happened to me. I'm BF and got my period back when my son was about mmmm, 4 months. I haven't had one since and he's now 7 months. About a month or so ago I had an IUD put in, though. So there is a chance that my period will never return.

Hi M.,
This is totally normal for nursing moms, if you think something might be wrong maybe call and have a check up. I have had 5 kids in 6 years and have prob have had 20 perdiods that were all here and there, no ryme or reason. It's part of nursing from what I have experienced and talk to my friends who nurse too.
