Period Is Late but Testing Negative

Has anyone had the problem of being late but not testing positive? I've been extremely regular since I started at the age of 13 (so much that I can tell you my start time within a two hour period). My first son is now 9 months old and I've had my usual regular periods for the past six months. With him, I tested positive the day I was to start my period. I'm now six days late for this period. I tested two days ago but the test was negative. If I can manage it, I'm going to wait to test again on Saturday. I've had the usual cramping that I had with my first and I just recently noticed "that smell." However, my brests aren't the least bit sore. Any thoughts? At what point does one call the doctor if the tests continue to be negative?

What can I do next?

Thank you all for your responses. I went for a blood test and then started my period a few hours after getting the negative result. Apparently I was under more stress than I realized!

I'm not quite sure how soon a doctor's office could test you. I would definitely try to stay patient til Saturday (yes, easier said then done) then try again.
I'm sure this is very stressful for you. Hang in there.

I just went through that earlier this year. I was actually 4 weeks late...and like you, had been completely regular. I took lots of pregnancy tests--all negative. Be patient. Stress can be a factor...and being a mommy of a little one can certainly be stressful. Plus I think pregnancy plays a part in our bodies taking a long time to regulate.

Hi N.

I am sorry you are so worried... the unknown is agony! I too was late, like a week... had the cramping and all the other sign... even would get up in the middle of the night because I had that feeling that I had started...

Well, after the first test was negative, I waited another several days and tested again.

We are due in June.

My first pregnancy... I did not have sore breast... this time around... holy cow!
so yes, all pregnancy's are different.

Good Luck!! Keep us posted!!

Your doctor can do a blood test to confirm pregnancy much earlier than the over the counter tests will show positive. And each pregnancy is different. You may have different symptoms than last time. I'd go ahead and get the doctor's opinion since you are so late.
