Period After Breastfeeding - Ogdensburg,NY
Hi Mommies,
So my DD is now 13 months and I breastfed her for the entire first year and just stopped completely about 2 weeks ago. As soon as I stopped I suffered from serious cramps, which I assumed was the dreaded first period coming on after having a baby and these cramps lasted for about a week. They were very sporatic yet really painful. Its now been 2 weeks and not only have the cramps stopped but I still have yet to see my period. We would like to start trying for another baby (actually we have been for a few months now) but I assumed that it would happen as soon as I stopped breastfeeding and without a period I am getting a bit discouraged. I was just wondering if anyone else's period took this long to come back and should I be worried?
Thanks so much in advance for your answers

Just because you don't have a period does not mean you cannot get pregnant. You can get pregnant! I breastfed my first two children exclusively for well over a year but did not get a period until they were about a year old or so. And, while breastfeeding my second child, I became pregnant with my third.

actually you could already be pregnant not saying that you are but it is possible especially if you werent using any form of birth control. I would take a test in a couple weeks and see

I breastfed my daughter and started the weaning process at 13 months and finished completely around 15 months. It took about three months after finishing completely for my period to return. I agree that it would be a good idea to take a pregnancy test, just to be sure. Also I found the ovulation strips (CVS brand) to be very helpful to see if I was ovulating (though I didn't think to start those right away - I started a couple months after weaning completly). I wouldn't be worried if I were you, everyone is different and you never know what the body is going to do. good luck!

Breastfeeding doesn't always make it impossible to conceive, nor does it magically make your period/cycle return.
Looks like you may have weaned her for the wrong reasons, and it didn't even work out as you thought. Too bad you didn't ask about trying to conceive while nursing...
