I'm going through lots of changes in the last 2 years, irregular periods, hot flashes, weight gain in upper body to the tune of 25 pounds. I started bio-identical hormone replacement with a doctor in Roselle and doing everything she recommends for good health for the last 9 months but my weight hasn't budged. I've tried everything from Weight Watchers, Advocare, Herbalife, The Zone, Jorie Medical Weight loss and more. I'm taking supplements, exercising more and I still look in the mirror and can't believe its me. Is anyone out there that's going through the same thing? My doctor told me (through saliva testing) that my adrenal glands are fatigued and not functioning properly. I'm taking fish oil with other supplements and was told this will help my metabolism to start funtioning properly.

What can I do next?

I was in the same boat and had the same weight gain starting at 43 and loss of all natural muscle. One thing my Dr. looked at was thyroid gland but I have managed to take off weight and maintain not just through exercise but weight training too, which helps your body burn fat and raise metebolism. I am not taking any pills and have maintained for last 4 years. Lowered cholesterol naturally and have energy for 2 teen boys schedules.

I would recommend reading the book, "The Schwarzbein Principle" by Diana Schwarzbein, MD.

You could have a gluten sensitivity. Try avoiding breads for a month or two; all wheat, barley, rye and oats and things made with them like pastas and sauces.

Definitely avoid SUGAR!!! I think that alone even is a huge key.

Wishing you the best of health,
N.

I am going through the same thing. I have put on and kept on about 30 pounds. I eat well. Oh and I'm fifty. I take fish oil supplements. I do that for my bones, as the doctor recommended that when my son broke his hand. I never heard of it helping my weight. I eat very well. I am not fat as I move around all the time, walk, walk and walk and can't figure it out either. I am just bigger for a short person. Not slim anymore. Not ugly. Just have a harder, heavier body and it really depresses me sometimes. But people don't know how old I am because I have used Mary Kay for many, many years (about thirty!) It is wonderful. And I am alive and I will be fifty one next month! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
ANYWAY...I am still figuring this maturity stuff out also. It is very uncomfortable and add to your list, I don't sleep well anymore although I have a son in the service.

I think that some of us deprive our bodies from the nutrients and foods we needed all for the sake of "body image" for so many years that during menopause out body gets back t us no matter what we do. Some things are just meant to be at different ages and your body probably needs to maintain a little more weight. Stay away from added "fat" like lines a pork chop or ribeye etc. Use olive oil in place of butter when possible. Cut back on white bread or rice. Keep up the exercise.

Dear L.:
I wanted to share another product line with you that you might like to try. I've been a distributor for Reliv International for the last 3.5 years but no longer sell although I take the products and think they are terrific. In addition to their basic nutrition product which could balance out your system in itself, they have a special product for women called SoySentials as well as a weight loss product that I've used for about a year. When I was better at watching what I ate, I lost more. I don't know how proper nutrition seems to solve problems, but it has, and no one would say it is a medical cure. But I'd sure check it out. It is a multi level marketing company which is something I didn't like, but if you can get past that, I think the products are terrific. You can get more information at
reliv.com
or I would be glad to put you in touch with someone who could give you more information. You are welcome to contact me off list at
____@____.com
Good luck!
S.

Hi L.--First let me say none of those "diets" hardly work and we should not have to do all of this work to burn calories. First of all the reason why your metabolism is slow and thousands of other women is because of the toxins. It starts in your liver first and then works its way through your entire body-kidneys, adrenals, thyroid and eventually metabolism. Those other "diets" only compound the problem by thinking a pill or only eating certain foods will give you a quick fix. You have to look at your eating regimen and your water intake.

You have to correct your body-which means if your adrenals are fatigued and with peri or any kind of menopausal/pms problems you are estrogen dominant as well. Did your doctor also test for this when she did the saliva?

First of all stop taking the supplements. There are very few brands out there that actually work and help.

Give me some more detail on your eating plan and how much water you drink. Also are you drinking and eating any processed (ANYTHING boxed or pre-prepared)foods? Also let me know what exactly you are taking-name brand and the description.

Let's start from the beginning.
