Pelvic Pain (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) Recovery?

I have had Pelvic pain for the last month of pregnancy that left me pretty immobile. I'm 3 weeks post partum and am stlll immobile. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how they recovered. I have been seeing a chiropractor that specializes in pregnant women and families since before the birth of my baby. They keep telling me to sit still and let the ligament tighten however I'm experiencing muscle atrophy too... so if you experienced this, what did you do, if anything, to promote healing and walk again?

What can I do next?

Very painful, had it! Takes at least the six weeks post partum. Do your kegels and isometric (core muscle tightening) exercises 100 times a day or better said whenever you think of it do five and hold for five. Those ligaments stretched a lot delivering that baby you have YEAH! and it will take time to bring them back. I still could use some of these excerises and my baby is turning 21 Sunday!

Hi C.. I FEEL your pain. I too had SPD and pretty severly. I was on crutches during my pregnancy. I am now 3.5 months post partum and feeling better day by day. I still have some pain here and there, but far better than when I was pregnant!
I saw a PT when pregnant and she gave me some exercises to do that saved me. I can send you her info if you need it - she is in Newton.
Many pelvic exercises, the cat/cow stretch and some abdominal exercises should help you.
Try to put weight on BOTH legs - when standing up, when getting out of the car, and get dressed sitting down. That is still one thing I have to do. I can't put my pants on without pain! But it is getting better.
I would use crutches to get around when possible, get yourself a temporary handi-cap sticker for your car, and do ANY exercise that you can to strengthen the area.

Good luck!

Going to the chiropractor is your best option. I did read about this and the "experts" say that it can take up to several weeks for this to fix itself. That isn't giving you help for now though. It sounds so painful and you have my sympathies.
I am not sure if you have seen this web site, but it looks as if it has helpful information regarding things you can do to help minimize your pain:

Have you tried either acupressure or acupuncture? Both work well in conjunction with chiropractic care and are a natural alternative to medication.

Can you ask your doctor about swimming?

Hi,I'm not sure who your doctor is but I went yrs with crippling pain in my pelvis. I even had to terminate a pregnancy because if the pain at one time. It was horrible dr.s thought I just wanted pain meds and were just plain sick of me. I met a wonderful dr. her name is Dr. Royce and she is at women's healthcare in Haverhill/Newburyport. It took her no time at all to figure out what I had she took me right in and found the problem ( which ended up to be interstitial cystitis)within I would say under 2 mo's. Not only is she good at what she does but her bed side manner is the best I've ever known a dr to be. I have recommended her to alot of people and she continues to be the best gyn I know of. I will always be greatful for her. Although you do already know what your diagnosis is she may be able to help with recovery, she's very resourceful. good luck
