Pediatricians - Chicago,IL
Hi Everyone,
I will be a first time mom in June. I currently live in the South Loop and I am looking for advice on who to see for a pediatrician. I have heard that Lakeview Pediatrics is great. Can you please provide feedback or some information on Pediatricians in the Chicago area?
Thanks!

Congradulations!!
I'm sorry I have to respond negatively to Lakeview Pediatrics, I went there the first 3 1/2 years with my Daughter (she is now 5), had wonderful experiences, untill Dr Salem (who is the owner) she is an awful women and awful towards her clients/pwtients. long story however if you would like to know I can share it with you. She definatly does not put her patients first!!!
Be careful.

We go to Town and Country Pediatrics, they are at 1400 N. Halsted and have a parking garage attached with discounted parking (I think it's $2 with validation). We've been very happy there - they are open 7 days a week, have evening hours and a ton of doctors. We see Dr. Kazdin, but have seen many other docs in the practice for sick visits over the last 6 years and like almost all of them. The practice is run pretty efficiently and we never have to wait long for appointments. The downside of that is that they get very upset if you are late for an appointment.

I have been using Northwestern Children's Practice since my 4 year old was born. I also now have a 10 month old and we continue to use them. I think it is a great practice. There are a number of doctors on staff, someone to suit every personality. They also have very convenient office hours, walk-in hours including weekends, and update a voice mail message constantly regarding the availability of the flu vaccine and H1N1 vaccine.
This is the practice headed by Dr. Weissbluth, the "sleep doctor". We love them.
Hope this helps!

My son has been going to the pediatricians in Northwestern since he was born and it's almost been a year. I would recommend them if you live close. Unfortunately for me they are too hard to get to so when we move up north we will be changing.
Thanks for posting this question though as the other moms have given me a great guide on who to change to when we move!
Thanks moms!

We see Dr Starr at Streeterville Pediatrics near Northwestern Mem. Hospital and we LOVE her! She has a young daughter of her own and is very in touch with what parents go through!

Lakeview Pediatrics is great. I have 2 children, a three year-old boy and an 8 month old girl, and we've used them since my son was born. They have taken excellent care of our children. They are great when you call in with any questions and they spend as much time as you need when you go in for visits.
They tend to be on the sort of conservative side of things medically and will always have you do testing to be sure the kids are ok. Which I like, personally. For example, they require that you do a cbc (complete blood count) when the kids turn 1 and 3 years old, to rule out or for early intervention of any deficiencies or diseases (anemia, childhood cancer, etc). Not every doctor requires this, and I'm glad mine does. Also they are big on natural methods when the kids are sick vs using over the counter medicine. They will of course prescribe antibiotics when needed, but I feel that they are very responsible when it comes to trying natural methods first when it's appropriate to lessen the amount of medicine that our kids have to receive.
I can see what the person below means about Dr. Salem - she's not the warmest person I've ever met, although she knows her stuff!! But we prefer either Dr. Perlman or Dr. Newport because of their fantastic demeanor with the kids, and you can always choose who you see. We LOVE both of those doctors, they are phenomenal (all of the doctors are women, just fyi).
Congrats and good luck!

Hi,
We go to the same pediatrician group with our son as Kelley below. We love it. Never had an issue getting an appointment when needed and they are open 7 days a week.
