Pediatrician in Palatine Area

I am in the process of looking for a new pediatrician for my 2 year old twin boys and baby on the way (due in January). I'm running out of time because I know they need to get in for their flu vaccinations and weight checks but I'm nervous about picking the wrong doctor again. I'm just not really happy with their previous one and have been putting off changing but now with the new baby on the way, I know I need to act faster.

My boys were born very premature and are still small for their age. They have gone through a million and two tests to find out their small but the pediatrician won't let it rest. Neither my husband or myself are that big so it makes sense but since they are always at the 5-10 percentile on the charts, red flags are drawn.

We are on the edge of Palatine and Arlington Heights so I'd love to find something within 20 minutes of us since I'll be traveling there a lot with 3 kids:p I want someone who is used to low birth weight babies and has a lot of experience with preemies and multiples.

Does anyone know of a good pediatrics group near this area that goes above and beyond especially for kids with special needs/prematurity?

What can I do next?

I have to give a second referral for Dr. Bernadetta Kordas at Pediatric Health Care Associates. We lived in Palatine until a little over a year ago and we went to her. I was sorry to have to leave her when we moved to Algonquin. She is wonderful with the kids and parents alike and very smart. Also, her practice is right on the border of AH and Palatine so she's very close to Palatine.

Medical Pediatrics in Arlington Heights is great. Melissa C referred Dr. Burkhardt from there. I have also seen Dr. Pyle and Dr. Perez at the practice. So far they have all been great. The staff is extremely helpful also. They are located at the corner of Wilke and Central Rd.

We've used Medical Pediatrics in AH (at wilke & central) with my 2 & almost 4 yr olds since they were born and love Drs. Burkhart and Perez! ###-###-#### I actually drive almost 40 minutes because we've been so happy there.
We were origianally referred there by a family with a special needs son who loves the practice for him, and their other children.

As a side note....my daughter is usually in the 3rd-5th percentiles and the dr has never given us a hard time. She has always stated that as long as they find a spot on the growth charts and grow accordingly is what matters.

Good luck!

My pediatrician is Dr. Carol Burkhart in Arlington Heights. My 2 year old son is a little small for his age and she referred us to Children's Memorial at Northwest Community Hospital just to make sure there wasn't something wrong with him. I really like her and am comfortable referring you to her. Here is her info:

E., I'm not sure how far it is exactly, but we go to Children's Healthcare Associates in Northbrook. I do have a friend who lives in Palatine that also uses this practice. I love my pediatrician, but he's not taking new patients at the time. They're all good. A few I particularly like are Drs. Monroe, Slivnik, and Rauen. Good luck!

I take my two children to North Arlington Pediatrics in Arlington Heights and am happy with them. It is a group practice with both male and female doctors. I particularly like Dr. Peters (male) and Dr. Kristen Brown. My son has been on the light side (10th percentile), and they never made a big deal about it. They are located at 1430 N. Arlington Heights Rd. and their phone number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

I second Lisa K's thumbs up to Drs. Mike and Charles Slavik. Not sure if she mentioned but it's a father/son team so you get a ton of experience from Dr. Charles and cutting edge from Dr. Mike. Both are relaxed and easy going and we and our boys love them.

My youngest is small weight wise - but the way Dr. Mike handles it is that each kid is different and as long as they are showing consistent growth, then they're just growing at their own pace. If you kids went from a 50th percentile to a 5 percentile in weight without a substantial increase in height, then there would be cause for concern. But if you're kids have been consistently in the 5-10 percentile and continue to be, then it's just how they are - probably not a need for worry.

I know you're short on time and busy, but schedule an appt to talk with them before you bring the kids. We did this when I was pregnant with my first and it helped me feel comfortable and get their take on things without the distraction of a baby. And you don't pay for this type of visit.

They get us in whenever we need to, the front desk staff (at least at the rolling meadows office where we go) are really nice (recently picked up free formula samples when she saw me looking at the rebate forms on the desk) and they do have late hours. I can't say enough good about them.

(Plus, Dr. Mike has a philosophy that I love...if you find the poopy diaper, you change it. That includes him when he's checking out the newborns at the hospital as well as kids in his office!!)

Good luck!

I have two boys with ADD/ADHAD and a 5 year old little girl and I had the same issues about a doctor for them. My two youngest kids were so scared to go to see a doctor .Anyway- Dr.Charles Slavik and Dr . Michael Slavik -They are located at Old Mchenry Rd( 83) and Lake Cook Road in Buffalo Grove- They are so caring and my kids so love them .I like them also because they are also on the cutting edge not old fashioned:) I hope this helps:) Also here is their number= ###-###-####

Hi E.,

Boy, do you have a busy life. I don't blame you for wanting a dr. close to you...I don't know if they specialize in what you are looking for, but my sons doc is Dr. Bernadetta Kordas at Pediatric Health Care Associates. She is involved, very smart and I just overall like her. There are three other male doctors in the practice (all senior to her) so possibly someone there could help you and your family. They are on the border of Palatine and Art. Hts (so is our home) and it is nice and close for us. 1640 N. Arlington Heights Road ###-###-####
Good luck

We have been with a pediatric group that has an office right at Northwest Community Hospital and one in Lake Zurich, I believe there are 5 doctors on staff there. Both my children like all of them. There number is ###-###-####.
Good luck to you!

We love the doctors and staff at Arlington Pediatrics, Ltd.
We especially love seeing Dr. Brottman and Dr. Santiago. They are affiliated with Northwest Community Hospital & Children's Memorial. They are just wonderful to see and I have my full confidence in them.

I'm not sure if this is close enough for you but my kids and I really like Dr. Beckerman and his group of doctors. The office is called Pediatric Care in Barrington right next to Good Shephard Hospital.
