My 17 month old grandson has curvature of the spine and we think the brace he is supose to wear at night is weakening his back muscles instead of helping. we need to find someone who is use to dealing with a small child. A lot of chiropractors say that they can, but we want to find one who has experience with small children and is recomended by other parents with knowleage of how they are with some one whos to young to know what they are having done to them. My daughter also had scoliosis(spelling???) and was helped by a chiropractor as an adult. We don't want to wait that long to help Noah get better.

What can I do next?

My daughter has set up an appointment with Dr Zac in Lees Summit for next week for an assessment. (he is closer then the rest and more people recomended him but it is great to know we have other choices if for some reason he doesn't work out. Will let you all know more later after the assessment etc. Thanks to all of you for your help. (BIG break thru he has finally started walking by him self- almost 3 months after his sister did but he's doing it.

We go to Natural Way in OPKS. We drive from the east side of KC as I have never found a chiropractor that I loved and trusted as much as these people. They have several dr. we see all of them. I think you would be very pleased.

I took my son to a chiropractor due to torticollis and was very happy with the results. I found my chiro on this website: http://www.icpa4kids.org/index.htm (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). Unfortunately, my chiro is out of practice otherwise I would recommend her. You can search on this website by location to find chiros certified in pediatrics. I, too, have scoliosis, but never needed any care, but always thought a chiro would just help in general.

I'm not for sure where you live but my whole family goes to Dr Michelle Affolter her address is 8101 N. Oak Trafficway and her number is ###-###-####. She does treat children (even babies) and she is wonderful with them. She will talk with you and find out just what you want and let you know things to do to help between visits.
Hope this helps.

I have congenital scoliosis (born with it) and was always given the impression that I couldn't see a chiropractor because of this. However, the actual reason for this may have been because they had to intervene with spinal fusions and metal rods early on to treat my curvature.
So, I don't know about chiropractors... But I went to a wonderful orthopedic surgeon, Jack Andrish, from the time I was 4 yrs until college. He was at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, so I know that wouldn't work for you. Andrish sent me to Dr. Robert Winter in Minneapolis at a children's hospital there for one of my surgeries, which would be a little closer. And then since I moved to the KC area as an adult, I have seen Mark Bernhardt at KC Orthopaedic Institute. I don't know how he is with children.
I don't know if that will be helpful at all. Obviously I'm not very familiar with chiropractic care for scoliosis, but having been diagnosed with scoliosis as a toddler and dealing with the braces and surgeries throughout my childhood, your request struck a chord with me and I wanted to respond.
