Hi Ladies! I have a quick question...My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since Dec 09. With our 1st child, we needed to do IVF due to having PCOS. Since I stopped the pill in 12/09, I have gotten 2 periods, both 36 days apart. Well, I was due to get my period on 4/3 and haven't gotten it yet. I took two home pregnancy test, one 4/3 and one 4/8, both negative. When I was pregnant with my daughter, that at home test was negative the day the Dr told me I was pregnant. So, any ideas of what to do next?

What can I do next?

Hi C.K!

I would definitely call your doc. I have PCOS, got off the pill, had 2 regular periods 36 days apart, then missed my third. I took 5 at-home tests, all of which were negative, and thought surely it was just my system messing up again. It wasn't! My at-home test didn't show positive until I was 4 weeks~I am 6 weeks today. Getting confirmation from your doctor will relieve a lot of stress!!

Best wishes!

MY first 2 babies the test was negative but as you see it was wrong . W/ my 4 baby I tried a test 1 more time but this time I used first morning urine and i got a positive. and had #4 this aug. Some people dont make enough hormone early on so harder to detect. But 1 morning. urine has a better concentrate of hormone so better chance of detection.Good Luck!

if you aren't pregnant, i would suggest going to acupuncture (someone who is specialized with treating fertility issues) - some insurance will cover especially if you have painful periods - also the acupuncture will help reduce your cycle time and increase your chances of getting preg. It helps quite a bit and is also a great stress reducer. Also, if you try this for several months, and it doesn't work, you may need to see a doc. and have them put you on metformin which also helps with insulin resistance. The combo of that and acupuncture might be the trick...

PCOS is a strange little condition that makes everything just a little less predictable.

My guess is that, if you are pregnant, your HCG levels aren't high enough for a home pregnancy test to detect, and you may want to contact the OB/GYN to see what they recommend.

If you're not pregnant, it may just be the PCOS wreaking havoc on your period, and your hormones trying to get back in balance.

For the first time in my life, my period was 28 days while going through chemo......and it stayed that way for 15 months after I finished treatment....until 2 months ago. I guess my body is finally returning to normal which means no predictability of any kind (other than the emergence of acne telling me it's somewhere close).

Good luck! Hoping you have good news.

Like others have said, call your OB/GYN and see what they want you to do. Or wait and take another test in a week (I hate waiting...usually for disappointment!). Treat your body like you are pregnant to be on the safe side. No alcohol, smoking, etc.

If you haven't already, start taking prenatals daily. Also talk to your doctor about going Metformin to see if that will help you with conceiving. It helped me get pregnant both times. I went 6 years before I found a doctor who had a clue of what I had and how to go about it.

GOOD LUCK!! I hope you are pregnant!

GO get a blood pregnancy test. Those "sticks" may be 99.9% accurate on the majority of people but for some reason there are a few that are wrong. My friend when she was prego they read negative too! Good Luck!
