Since you only have one babe, the factors are going to be how often are you using this sitter, and what is the age and experience.
I would say for a teenager who comes once in a while, I would say $6-$8/hr. For a more someone 19+ $10/hr. If they are coming as a "nanny" on a scheduled weekly basis $12/hr.

I used to be a nanny and sitter in college in order to make rent, though at the time I lived in NYC and there was a much higher cost of living. There as a nanny I got $500/week and was on call, and as an occasional sitter I made $15-$20/hr.
So when I look at that, I drop it by 1/3 because the cost of living here is soooo much different.

We pay a 15 yr old $7-8 an hour and the girl who used to take care of him at daycare $10 and hour. I still think $10 an hour is high expecially when he sleeps most of the time but we keep calling her because we trust her with him and we know she will do it when we call her.

I think a lot of teenage babysitters will probably ask for 6-7 bucks an hour... but since they are taking care of my kids, I want the babysitter to be happy no matter how the kids behave or what she has to do.. so I just pay $10/hour. That way she's happy, gets more than she expects/usually gets and won't be bothered too much if she has to do a little extra. I think since you have just one little baby, you can probably offer 8-9 bucks.

hello,
I agree with the one gal who posted. It really depends on different factors such as the age, maturity and experience of your sitter. If you are hiring a responsible and experienced adult caregiver who is going to be involved with your children, they should be paid $10-$15 a hour depending on responsibilities and number of children they will be watching and so forth. My daughter is 21 and babysits two children and receives $9-$10 per hour. Nanny services in our area pay their employees between $12-$18 per hour as I have called them myself to check out the going rate.
A reliable and experienced sitter is so worth the money. I feel childcare providers deserve to be paid a decent wage for their work.

YIKES 12-15?
Geez! I took a poll and asked the ones I use (14/15 yrs old) and the average is 4-6 an hr for one kid and like 7-8 an hr for 2.
