Paychecks Stubs, Statements Etc

We've gone as paperless as possible. I check my pay stub online each pay period to make sure it's accurate and we periodically check our statements online to make sure that they are accurate as well, but rarely do we print anything.

Anything that offers online payment, we do it. Between purchasing checks and books of stamps... it does add up after a while.

Just a suggestion, most of these online documents can be saved as a PDF to your computer. That way, you are maintaining the records if you need them, but not clogging up your life with papers. We have done that with our utility bills. We moved recently and need "paper bills" to establish residency, enroll in school, sign up for rec leagues, etc but don't really want a paper bill each month. We save them as a PDF and print as needed.

I print out every single one. At the end of the fiscal year, I file them all with our taxes for that year. So they are out of the way and not just piling up stacks and stacks... but I know where they are if I should ever need to look at them.

Can you save them as a PDF file to a flash drive? This way you always have access to them, but you don't need to print them all off. I don't know if your work system allows for that, I know mine did when I worked.

I save mine to a back up drive. I only print out the last paycheck of the year to compare it to my W2. Other than that? No reason to print out every pay period.

In regards to your last employer? If you still have access to the site? Print the last one. That's it. You really don't need the others.

Well my employer prints them, god knows why, I assume it is because the people who make decisions like that are old and don't like computers much, I digress. I only keep the last one after I verified the totals are correct.

For you, print them to PDF and store them. If I had that option I would.

I check my pay statements each time to make sure it is correct and everything adds up correctly. I can save the statements as a PDF and have done that for the past 3 months. When I received paper statements, I saved them for the year so I could compare to the W-2 at the end for taxes. I always make sure I have 3 months available in case I need it.

You should print out the last month worth of statements, and any year-end w-2 info.

The only time I can remember needing a pay stub (in the last 10 years) was when we refinanced our house. But if it would make you feel better, I would download them and save them as pdf's.

I have all of our tax information for the last 5 or 6 years saved as pdf's. I do also have paper copies, but I'm honestly not sure why, as it usually takes me awhile to find them every year.

Print out all your pay stubs and keep them in a file labeled pay stubs.
You might need to have evidence of your money one day, and people are prone to make mistakes too.

For record keeping you should just keep the last paystub of the year, or a final check from an employer for up to 7years but I keep for 10 years.

Statements I am totally paperless and can get everything on line, but if you have paper you only need to keep 1 or 2 months.

I never see hubby's paycheck stubs. I can log in to see records, but I never do. As long ad I see the money getting dumped into all the appropriate accounts, I don't worry about it.

The only pay stub that I feel is relevant is the final one of the year and/or the final one from an employer. Otherwise it is clutter.

I do have my credit card statements but honestly they could probably all be shredded. There is nothing on them that would need to substantiate anything on a tax return. If there was it would be filed with that year's tax return. Also credit card companies typically have one year's worth of statements available online.
