I am hosting a cocktail party for my husband's 30th birthday next week, I have ideas such as cocktail franks, buffalo chicken bites, cocktail meatballs and some dips. I am looking for simple appetizer, finger food ideas and also ideas for a nice alcoholic beverage that he can be put in a punch bowl.
Thank you for your help.

One great beverage is Southern Comfort Punch. My family serves it at all holidays and gatherings. Here's the recipe.

1/2 can frozen lemonade defrosted
1/2 can frozen orange juice defrosted
1/2 can lemon juice
1 fifth of Southern Comfort
1 3/4 of two liters of 7-Up
Mix together. Put in ice before serving.

How about bruchetta on a crusty bread? There are some packs of the bread/crackers usually sold with the bruchetta...but I forget the name of the type of bread! Different cheese and crackers. Veggies and dips. Spinach dip in a black bread bowl. A goat cheese log with fig sauce always is a hit where I am, or you can get goat cheese with cranberries in it already, at Trader Joe, I think. Also spinaikopita, the Greek spinach and cheese pies. Then there's humus and pita, or eggplant dip and pita....

Have fun!

get tortilla shells, cream cheese, and black and green olives. dice up the olives, mix them in with the softened cream cheese, then spread the mix on the toritllas. roll them up and refrigerate overnight, then slice into small sections, pin with toothpick if needed.

get a jar of pineapple and drain it well. get a pack of bacon and slice into thirds. wrap the bacon around the pineapple, and secure with toothpick. place in cake pan or other deeper baking dish. mix 1/2 c. of mayo, 1/4 c. brown sugar, and 1/4 c. chinese chili (can't substitute this), pour over the pinneapple pieces. bake at 350 for about 35 minutes.

veggie pizza is always a good finger food, and it's lighter than some other party foods.

as for drinks, you could do whiskey sours in a punch bowl. try allrecipes.com, they have had some good drink recipes. we don't usually use mix drinks, so i don't have a lot of ideas for that. if you want unique beer ideas, those i could give!

Quick & Easy finger food:

Take a piece of deli ham, spread with softened cream cheese, then from short end of ham, roll tightly around a green onion. Chill rolls for 1-2 hours. Just before serving, cut into rings with a sharp knife & arrange on platter. They look like little pinwheels. Serve with toothpicks. So easy, and very addicting!

Sangria is always nice in a punch bowl (with fresh fruit floating on top--sliced oranges, limes, and chunks of grannysmith apples).

Hummus and pita bread or chips; fresh fruit skewers for appetizers to balance the heavier ones. Have a good time!

One mexi app I make: one can of corn, one can of black beans, chop up an avacado...instant Mexican dip!!...sometimes I add a red pepper chopped up really small or an onion chopped fine but it's not necessary.

I used to take flour tortillas, spread them with plain old-fashioned pimento cheese spread, roll up and chill in fridge. Slice into rounds & arrange on a platter. I didn't have many leftovers!

I also used swirled breads (rye/pumpernickel, even cinnamon raisin bread) and flavored soft cream cheese to make finger sandwiches. Just toast the bread in a toaster, spread w/the cream cheeses, layer with another piece of toast, then cut into eighths. The rye/pumpernickel went really well with pineapple cream cheese.

Good luck with your party!

Hi,

I always make a buffalo chkn dip when there will be men drinking. It is a HUGE hit and so easy to make. It is either 2 bags of the pre cooked and cut chicken strips they have for salads or I get a roticerie chkn precooked and pull and shred myself. Then you put that in a pan and heat then mix with one block of cream cheese/2 cups of ranch dressing and hot sauce (to taste...I like it hot so I use a good amount). I then sometimes chop up (very fine) pieces of celery and throw it in. Some ppl dont like celery though. Then to finish it off I throw in about a half a cup of shredded cheese...whatever your preference. I usually us the 3 cheese blend or just cheddar. I grabbed a very small crock pot from walmart for $4 and it all fits perfect and keeps it warm for hours. Then you just grab a long italian roll and slice up into small pieces and some celery sticks and wala!! This is such a big hit at any party with alcohol. And for the puch bowl, try a sangria. There are sooo many really easy recipes out there! Good luck!!

Everyone always likes this simple dish:

-Burrito Size Tortilla shells
-2 - 8 ounce packages of cream cheese
-1 cup sour cream
-6 green onions finely minced (I leave them out sometimes)
-3 fresh jalapenos finely minced (I buy a jar of sliced jalapenos and estimate what 3 would be)
-Lime juice to taste (about 1 tablespoon)

Mix together and spread thin on tortilla, then roll up.
Slice and serve cold with picante sauce or salsa
If I have time, I usually roll them up, refrigerate them for an hour to set the cream cheese, then its easier and not as messy to cut up.

I have a few great easy go to ideas. Take tenderloin tips and coat them with an even amount of chili powder and brown sugar dust of access and place on cookie sheet and place in a 400 degree oven for about 10 minutes for rare and a little longer for medium. If you do a relish tray (which everyone loves and is great and healthy) Take a box of Knorr's spring veg soup and 1 cup of sour cream (can be no fat) and 1cup mayo combine all three and let sit in fridge for at least 2 hours. If you do carrots, celery, hot houses cucs, and maybe a red bell pepper that would make a great easy app. One other one would be to take cherry tomatoes and small balls of mozzarella and skewer them place on a platter and drizzle with a good evoo and red wine vinegar, s&p and fresh basil is also great! If I can be of anymore help or you have any question feel free to contact me. S.

I made mini pizza bagels for my bday last night, they were gone in a couple of minutes :-) If you are good at making chicken salad you can put it in the mini pastry shells. They are bite size and delicious. Fresh fruit is also very easy, with the marshmallow cream cheese dip. Planning a 30th is so much fun!! Have a great time!
