Parks to Take Pictues in near or Around Converse
I am trying to get into photography and I have a brand new Nikon camera. I do not know any nice parks with great scenery to take pictures in of my son and pet dogs. Also, does anyone have any websites they reccomend for picture taking advice or how to use the settings for different areas. The manual doesnt help much for me since I am pretty new and it uses very advance terms. Thanks for any help

Hi, and welcome to the wonderful world of photography! I strongly suggest reading the manual and playing with your camera so you can get a good feel for all of its functions. Second, turn it on and shoot. Take photo's of every thing you see. Then look at them. Look up online the rule of thirds and focus on composition. Don't always center your object, look around the frame and see what other items may clutter your photo. After you practice with your camera on the AUTO mode, get out of it. Shoot in program and learn your camera. and lastly, cheack out "fredmiranda.com" and http://photography-on-the.net/forum although that one is a canon site. But you will see some incredible photos on fred miranda,(well both sites have great images) and they provide forums for all types of photography (macro, people, landscape, etc). One more thing... lighting, very important. Don't shoot in mid day. Makes your photo's look flat. Try early mornings or late day. Happy shooting!

Walker Ranch Historical Landmark Park

I don't know how close it is to you, but I really like this park. They have a windmill, a really interesting tree and a nice split rail fence that make nice backdrops. You wouldn't think it, by the area, but it is safe and pretty
The Brackenridge Park downtown by the zoo is nice too.

The Live Oak park is off of Toepperwein very close to Converse and it has a little lake in it and some playgrounds and various other scenery I think you would enjoy. But remember it's not always about the scenery, it's about the picture!
Also, the McNay Museum has VERY beautiful landscaping, but you might have to pay $10 to take pictures there, but it will be so worth it! So pretty! It is off of Broadway in the Alamo Heights area.
Hope you enjoy taking pictures! I do! :)

It's not really close to Converse, but I think that by far the best place for pictures in S.A. is the Japanese Tea Garden, across from the Zoo.

The botanical gardens and the umlauf sculpture garden both located off of barton spring by zilker are excellent places and it's almost impossible to take bad pictures there. If you go to kodak's wen site they have picture taking tips that are very useful!good luck!
