Pap Smear

Has anyone had a colposcopy? My pap smear was abnormal and the doctor wants to take a closer look at my cervical tissue. Does it hurt when he excises the tissue sample? How long did you wait for the results?

Thank you for all the support. I had my colposcopy today. As someone suggested, I used an IPOD for distraction during the procedure and it really helped. It really was not painful just some cramping during and after. The procedure took about 10-15 minutes. My OB/GYN took a biopsy and said that I had only a few abnormal cells. I will get the results in 2 weeks. At the end of the procedure the OB/GYN gave me a full size Hershey Bar!!! I guess he knows women!

I had a colposcopy a few years ago it was a little uncomfortable, but it wasnt to bad and then it bled for a while, but nothing to bad and I cannot remember the time for the results a few days I think, but if you are doing it soon remember the holidays it may take more time

I haven't had one.. But my friend is a colonoscopy nurse.. She says people panic.. But they kind of knock you out.. You don't remember anything.. The worse part is drinking the goop the day before... You find out the results right away... Good luck

I have had it done 3 times and 2 of those times I had biopsies done on the spot. It doesn't hurt, just a little uncomfortable if they biopsy. My biopsy results only took a week and everything was fine each time. Good luck, I'm sure all will be okay!!!

Hi S.!

I had one done and I remember it being pretty uncomfortable but not exactly painful although I was glad when they were done. I was able to get the results in about a week where they told me I needed the LEEP procedure done. This wasn't a huge deal either although it is surgery. It was very simple and I was out of the hospital within a couple hours.

Good Luck,
K.

I had one about a year ago. I do remember some discomfort. Can't remember how long the results took. Good Luck!

Yes, I've had a colposcopy. For me, the anticipation was worse than the procedure, but that's me. I got the results immediately, because mine was "clean". I took tylenol before I went, had DH drive me (more for the nervousness factor than anything else) and wore OLD OLD OLD underwear, cause the dye they use stains (and I wanted NO memories of this procedure).

GOOD LUCK!

do you mean a pap smear or a colonoscopy?

the colopscopy isnt bad. just a pretty "in-depth" pap. the biopsies were uncomfortable but nothing that doesnt last a few seconds. there could be cramping for a couple of hours after. the anxiety going into it is what is scary. take 2-3 of advil or motrin 30 minutes before the procedure. my first time i didnt and my doctor gave me 600mg of advil as soon as i sat up. for the second time, i knew better and was completely fine during and after. they should only do a biopsy if they see some areas that are questionable. if not then you are ok otherwise the biopsy results are a couple of days depending on the lab. may take longer during the holidays. good luck!
