Two places where I have to shop for my daughter have been Target & The Children's Place. They almost always have a good selection of pants with adjustable waists.

We had the same problem. Cherokee has adjustable waistbands usually, and if you don't mind wrangler jeans (there a bit western looking) they usually come in slims even in the 2T size. You'll have to go to Gebo's or Tractor Supply company to get the wranglers probably but they are great jeans and never wear out!!

I have the same problem with my son. He will be 3 in January and during the summer he wore some shorts that were 6 - 9 mos! He has the smallest waist that I have ever seen. I find that elastic waist pants work the best. He really needs a 18 month size but most of them are too short. The best fit that I have found for him are the drawstring pants at Hanna Andersson. There is a store in Northpark Mall or you can order on line. They are a bit pricey but at least they fit. I have also had some luck with Kohl's brand of Sonoma and they are more reasonable. And, as a last resort, I just took several pairs to a tailor to have them altered. Hope this helps!

Hey ladies, I've been there! We just solved this problem for good in my house. If you find an outfit for your child that you LOVE but the pants aren't adjustable and fall off his/her waist - take 5-10 mins to sew a few inches of elastic in the back if it's a straight waistband. If it's an elastic waistband you can get some quilting thread (thick and strong) and bunch up about 4 inches worth of the elastic in the waistband and run the quilting thread straight through (with a thick, strong needle) and knot it at the end so it holds the small bunches in position. Make sure the waistband still has some elastic left that stretches, or has a button up front so you can still pull the pants on and off - problem solved.

I use Levi's slim fit for my son. You can get them in smaller sizes at Toys R Us or Babies R Us. So far for me they seem to be the best for slim fit.

I have the same problem with my son too. I buy the Cherokee jeans from Target with the adjustable waist band. He could probably still wear a 2T, but he's tall, so I buy the bigger size for the length and adjust the waist band. I've tried all of the ones mentioned here, and I really like the Cherokee brand. Might have to check out the Ralph Lauren ones, but otherwise, I'll stick with the Cherokee brand. Good luck!

Gap adjustable waist pants. My little guy would be walking around with pants half way down his diaper if it weren't for their pants!

the Children's Place carries adjustable waist jeans. My daughter had this issue (still does, but as they get older , it gets easier to find slim sizes). We put her in overalls alot so the waist didn't matter.

My 4 year old son still has the same problem. Length of a size 5 but a size 2T waist!

We go to Zara. It is at the Galleria..1st floor right outside of Nordstrom. It looks like just a women's or men's store...BUT there is a large children's department in the back. It the equivalent of Gap in Spain and Europe. Prices are great...most tshirts are $9-14 and pants will be $14-24. Great styling too!!
all of their pants have the adjustable waist band and tend to be slimmer cut due being European.

Good morning! I also have a skinny little boy and I found Old Navy pants to fit him best. They have adjustable waists. Gap and other brands have adjustable waists too, but they seem to be cut larger and just hang on him.

Good luck.

I understand where your coming from. My 5 year old is tall and should wear size 5, but his waist can fit into a size 2T!, but he looks like he's wearing capris LOL. Sweatpants/windpants usually arent a problem, but jeans and other pants are. I've always had luck with any jeans that have an adjustable waistband, mainly Levi's, but have recently found that Gymboree brand and Children's Place fit him rather well too.

Target
Old Navy (sometimes their slim version is good enough so try that)

i have the same problem with my son...i either get gap or old navy adjustible waistband or levi's, which seem to run more on the slim side. i had several pair that i adjusted also at home to fit better. the easiest way is to run elastic through the back seam....very little work!

Hi there. I have the same problem with my 2 year old little girl and it got worse once she was potty trained and lost the extra padding. I have found the best place is Children's Place. They have the adjustable waist band jeans and cords. They are pretty fairly priced at like 2 for $22. You can also find the adjustable waist at Target sometimes. Good luck. I know how aggravating it is to find the cutest outfit, or be given one as a gift and your kiddo can never wear it because it always falls off.

A few people suggested pants with an ajustable waitband. I had trouble finding those pants available under 4T. Gymboree and Oshkosh never fit and some Carters pants fit.

My son fit best in Ralph Lauren. If it's out of your budget try consignment stores or the outlet in Allen. Levis with the elastic back and zip/snap front also fit well.

My son was the exact same way (still is at 5). I found that Levi's jeans worked best for jeans. They have slim fit jeans, but I can't remember what size they start at. The cheap sweats at Target are pretty slim cut. Avoid Osh Kosh for pants, they run big in the waist!!

I design children's clothing in your size range. Look for brands that carry Slim adjustable waists. I know JC Penney's Arizona Brand carries this sizing.
