Painting the Bathroom Need to Stretch the Paint and or Lighten It
I have a small bathroom that i want to paint, I have some left over paint from my mom's house that i would like to use but I"m worried that I"ll be short by just a little bit. I wouldn't mind lightening the color either, since its a greyishblue. Has anyone ever tried to add a half a cup or cup of white paint to a premixed color??? Any reason why I shouldn't be able to do this as long as they are both interior paints and both latex???? and yes, i'm being cheap, but also by using this paint that would other wise be wasted i'm helping the environment!! thanks so much for any advice, i've tried ASKJEEVES but wasn't finding anything, Mama's always know best anyway!

i mix paint all the time, i buy "oops" paint, and mix them with my own supply. its very possible. just make sure you mix it very very well, or you will end up with dark/light streaks from where you get to the bottom of the can.

I don't know why you couldn't do that.
Another way to go is to paint just one or two or three walls and make the other white.
Or create your own chair railing by buying cheap molding. Then paint top 1/2 one color and bottom 1/2 another.

I painted my bathroom using an exterior paint- it was a shade too dark- so I added a can of White KILLS to a 3 gallon bucket of gold exterior paint. It came out beautiful, and you can't beat the durability of both of those for a bathroom!

I've not only painted the entire interior of my house recently (and did some "mixing"), I also do murals- with the same kind of paint you would use for rooms and such. It is most certainly fine to mix them! I do it all the time:)

You could probably mix the colors then take it to a paint store or Home Depot and ask them to put it in the mixed just to be sure it is thoroughly mixed.

Yes, I've done it too when the color I purchased wasn't quite right once I got it on the wall. I agree with sticking to the same type (latex, interior), but different colors can certainly be mixed. Good luck!

Home Depot has these little cans probably about a half cup or so that they will tint for you. You can actually take your can in, have the little can matched, add it and they will shake it all up for you. I think the little can cost about $3. Hope that helps.

Yes, you can mix any color you think will work.
