Painting on a Budget

We're wanting to paint our living room and hallways. We'll need quite a bit of paint and are on a very tight budget. We've always gotten our paint from Home Depot, but I was wondering if there was another paint store that might be priced better than just going to Home Depot. I tried doing on-line research but was not very successful in my searching. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?™

Thank you everyone for all your advise! We went with the low-end Walmart paint and it looks great! Plus, it's already passed the crayon test. Three days after we finished the living room, my middle child found a green crayon and decided to help us decorate! The magic eraser returned the wall to it's new splendor and all was well. :) We were able to paint the living room, foyer, and both hallways in our house for right around $50! Amazing...

look on Craigslist (www.craigslist.com). I've gotten brand new Sherwin Williams paint on there before at quite a savings.

My favorite paint store is sherwin williams on spring creek and 75.
Since you are on a budget, I can assume you are not going to be really picky about color. You need to ask for the "mistint" section.. it's in the back. Unlike home depo and lowes, these guys have a HUGE selection for really cheap. I'm sure you will find something nice.
Gallons are 4-5 dlls
5 gallon is 20 dlls

you can find all sorts of colors. They will not customize it. it's just what they got.
If you do not live near by, try paint stores in your area.

If you live in Plano you can go to their household chemical reuse center for free paint. Hopefully, you can find enough for all of your paint needs.

Just an FYI...A friend of mine painted her house with Walmart paint and it does not wear well. She has many spots where the paint has been washed off.

If you in Plano. You can try the Reuse Center run by the city. They pickup paint and other household chemicals from residents and verify the chemicals are safe and make them availabl le at their 'store' for other residents to pickup for free. They even remix some of their own paint so it is possible to get large quanities if one color for free depending on you color preferences. You can get more info at plano.gov.

habitat for humanity restore in east plano. avenue n/summit. 1400 summit... it's kinda of junky on the inside but you never know what you might find. call first. the number is listed in the telephone book. i think it's ###-###-####... good luck.

Your best buys are usually Home Depot or Lowe's. On occasion Sherwin Williams may have paint sales. I've painted most of my home so I know from experience. The key is to get the right amount of paint. You are saving alot of money by doing the painting yourself.
suggest you get a small sample of paint to try on the wall before you spending the $$ on the gallons you'll need.
Best of luck

If you want a specific color, Wal-Mart is probably the cheapest. Otherwise, check the uh-oh shelves of Depot and Lowe's. They might a color you're interested in.

Hi!

We have recently painted almost all the rooms in our home and used Walmart for our paint store. The colors all mixed perfectly to the color swatch card and with three kiddos it's very durable and have even tested out the washable factor and it's holding up great!!! One gallon over there is like $9.oo. We won't ever go anywhere else but Walmart for our painting needs from now on.
Hope this helps!
