It could be Braxton-Hicks, but it also could be something like gallbladder or even an appendix. It's hard to pinpoint the origin of abdominal pain, as the Vagus nerve, the nerve that serves the area, is spread out through the abdomen.

I would talk to the O.B. and probably also to an internist.

Good luck!

if these pains are coming and going, they are probably braxton hicks...or baby could be pushing on a nerve and that could be causing the pain...talk to your doctor either way and don't feel weird about, even "easy" pregnacies are hard and better safe than sorry! (I've had 5, and with two the nerve thing and with one he was so high up it hurt to breathe, but I checked with my ob and all...besides discomfort...was fine!)CONGRATS and GOODLUCK!

I had the same pain, about 2 weeks before I delivered. I couldn't get off the couch and could barely walk, its probably your muscles stretching, thats what my OB/GYN said. But definitly check with your doctor. Good Luck!

Could be pregnancy taking it's toll on you. You are stretching and putting stress on ligaments and muscles.
Could be baby stretching about inside under your ribcage and positioning himself for delivery and causing pressure points for you. It could be siatica(sp.?). Try stretching a bit to relieve pressure, see if it helps. Could be all due to your delivery date being around the corner. Baby dropping and such. Call your doctor, have it checked out to be on the safe side. Good Luck!

Hi M.,

Try drinking lots of water and laying on your left side. If it is Braxton Hicks, the water and rest will sooth and stop them. Braxton Hicks are not supposed to be very painful. They are more like a tightening of your entire belly (uterus). Sometimes these are brought on by dehydration.

If you have sharp pains I am inclined to think it is not the Braxton Hicks but something like a pinched nerve, appendicitis, or if coupled with indigestion possibly gallbladder.

Drink plenty of water and get some rest if the pain continues after that, then check with your OB.

Good Luck
R.

Hi M.,

Braxton Hicks are typically a tightening of the uterus, sharp pains on your side are not Braxton Hicks. It's possible that it's something pregnancy related and not to be alarmed about, but I would let the doctor know just in case it's something else like appendicitis.

Could be your ligaments stetching, braxton hicks can get painful but I have never heard of them going on quite this long, is your stomach hardening when the pains come? Have you called your doctor?

Congratulations!!

Always a good idea to call your doctor and talk w/ a nurse to give yourself reasurement. Being so close to your due date, they may bring you in just to check. Remember to rest and not overdue. I was planning to work right up to my due date also, but during one of the checkups, the stress of my work had my blood pressure so high, they took me out. I felt fine, but it wasnt healthy for the baby.

A quick call may help you feel better and one less thing to worry about is always best.

Congratulations and best of luck!

No it's not braxton hicks. It's just everything getting stretched out. All your tendons and muscles are being stretched as you grow bigger and that's what your feeling. Welcome to the lovely world of pregnancy.

Hey M.,
Are the pains directly under your right breast? I know that when I had Braxton Hicks it was a tightness over your whole belly....almost like pre-contractions and not nearly as painful as the real things....I also had gallbladder issues and ended up having to have my gallbladder out 3 months after my daughter was born....just a thought that maybe it is your gallbladder....if its almost like a combination of indigestion and right sided pain....you might want to ask your OB....I dont want to scare you but I know that gallbladder issues are common with pregnancy because of all the hormone rushes and stuff....Hope this helps!!

Hi M.. The pains could be braxton hicks. Are you experiencing any other symptoms. I had braxton hicks with both my pregnancies. With my last pregnancy I started getting them at 21 weeks. If they are really bothersome I would check with your ob. When I had braxton hicks my stomach would become hard as a rock and then go back to normal. Also you can get braxton hicks more frequently if you are not drinking enough fluids. My ob told me to try and drink 2 liters per day. If they get worse I would check with your doctor. I hope this was helpful. L.

It's very common for pregnant women to get kidney stones. I had them in my first pregnancy at 7 months. You probably passed one and didn't even know it, they come out in your pee. Go to your doctor and have it checked out. A bad one can make you go into pre-term labor so don't let it go too long.

Sounds like it could be ligaments stretching...try getting on all fours and letting your belly hang down for a little while. This could help everything to release and relax. Congratulations!

With both of my pregnancies I had sharp pains on the right side in my 3rd trimester. Both times they told me it was most likely stretching and my body getting ready. Never hesitate to call your ob/gyn though when something doesn't feel right. Best of Luck!

If its on you side, then NO its not braxton hicks,

It could be Gas, or the babys finger nails, or your bladder.

Its normal to feel pain while pregnant, its a very uncomfortable situation, but makesure when you talk to your doctor you tell him, ALso you can always call the office and ask them about it, this way you can describe it better, and if they are concerned they'll have you come in.

Good luck,and congrats M.,
