Pain - Rolla,MO
Sorry this isn't a parenting question. I have had some on and off pain in my right wrist and ring/pinky finger bottom knuckles. It hurts to a point (when flared up) that I cant hardly move my wrist and use my fingers. Any thoughts or remedies to try? Doctor needed or just rest? Any body struggled with this?
Ps...I've tred IcyHot for a few nights, no help.
So What Happened?™
Thank you all for your help....No injury and no arthritis. Just tendonitis. Thanks everyone....

my MIL suffered from both arthritis & carpal tunnel. She swore by soaking her hands in hot, soapy water each & every morning to relieve the pain & gain back flexion. Hope this helps!

talk to your doctor because that is carpal tunnel syndrome. There really isn't much you can do other than heat/ice alternating and maybe a brace.

I have osteoarthritis. My hands get painful and swollen when it gets humid out. I would go to the doctor to rule out injury - could be a compression fracture in your wrist.
Hope you feel better soon.

I had wrist pains to the point of wearing a brace. It was from how I held my steering wheel and pulling the heavy Tide bottle from a top shelf when i did laundry. I went to the doctor, they found nothing and offered no help. I went to an acupuncturist - after about 3-4 sessions the pain was gone and has never returned.

make sure you use a wrist support, it could be carpel tunnel

It's kind of hard to tell because it could be an injury you don't recall sustaining, carpel tunnel, tendonitis, osteoarthritis.
Have you taken tylenol, naproxen or ibuprofen in an attempt to see if the pain goes away when you have some kind of anti-inflammatory in your system.
I struggled with it when on a powerful antibiotic for 3 months during chemo. I had horrendous tendonitis in my hands which resolved when I discontinued the Levaquin.
When I went to physical therapy, ice was the preferred method of resolving most joint issues, but there are also Rx anti-inflammatories that can be taken daily to prevent it if there is arthritis, muscle damage, etc.
It might be worth a call to the doctor's office to see if they'd like to have you come in for a visit.

Hi S.,
It sounds to me like carpal tunnel. I had it during my pregnancy because of fluid retention, but there are other causes. Sometimes, the use of the mouse during long computer hours or playing golf and even gardening may cause this. My doctor suggested a wrist brace at night or during the day according to my activities or comfort. You can find it at any pharmacy. It gives you a lot of relief. Anyway it's a good idea to consult your doctor and be sure that it is carpal tunnel. It will last while you keep doing what it is causing your pain and tingling. It takes time.

do your fingers go numb? that was the big symptom that made my doctor think my wrist pain was carpel tunnel. I would recommend getting a wrist brace, i found a nice one at Walmart specifically for women and it's made a big difference. An anti-inflamatory might also help.
If it doesnt get any better after a few days, I'd go to the doctor.
