Hi Mommies, We are going to the zoo tomorrow and I want to try and take sandwiches. They'll be ham and cheese so I want to keep them cool in our cooler which will have other things as well alongside an icepack. How do I go about doing that without making the sandwiches soggy? TIA!

What can I do next?

Can you pack the meat ,cheese, bread separate and put them together there? That always works for me. Have fun!

zip lock zipper seal bags or some kind of tupperware/rubbermaid container. we always just use zip lock bags, they don't get soggy.

What my Grandma would do... is on each slice of bread, spread some butter on it first. Then, make your sandwiches, putting what you want in it.
According to her, the butter prevents the bread from getting soggy. Because, the butter, helps prevent the sandwich fillings from soaking into the bread. Hence, it not getting soggy.
My Mom does this too.
As do I.

When you make your sandwiches, ALSO put the lettuce, on EACH side of the bread. This will ALSO, form a 'barrier' to protect the bread from getting soggy. Then, put in the other filings.
Making sure, the lettuce is DRY before putting it in the sandwich. If you wash the lettuce first, make sure it is completely, dry.

ALSO, if there is moisture trapped in the cellophane wrap or Ziplock of the sandwiches, this will make the bread, soggy. Externally.
So, always, keep the sandwiches dry even if wrapped.
"Condensation" of heat or cold from other things, can make it soggy too.

ALSO, what I do is, I wrap my sandwiches in a paper towel first, THEN wrap it with saran wrap. Thereby, the paper towel will sop up any moisture. Not leaving it ON the bread slices.

all the best,
Susan

Do you have any plastic containers to put them in. Ziploc makes the perfect sandwich-sized plastic containers that are not very expensive and good for a few uses.

as long as they don't get wet, they won't get soggy. So, a good zip-loc will do the trick, just make sure they are zipped nice and tight! Have fun!

We always make sandwiches when we go out of town. We put them in baggies, then we stack them in the empty bread bag. double layer helps keep them from getting soggy. Have fun!!!

try keeping the ham and cheese seperate, as well as the dressing you put on them. if you are using the ice pack put newspaper in between them, it still keeps everything cool and non-soggy. When i pack lunches i bring bread in a seperate ziploc, cheese and ham in another seperate ziplock, and keep the dressing off and aside until its lumch time. Good Luck
