I am wondering if any of you have had any good or bad experiance with those ovulation tests. Which brands have you tried etc.....Have you tried them after birth control(depo shot.)

My husband and I have a 2yr old son and are wanting #2 to be somewhat close in age. We don't want to feel like we are starting over. However I was on the depo shot for a yr after our son was born(last shot june 08 with next dose due sept 08)with no period at all, and then didn't start having a period till the end of Jan. Once my periods started I would have months of 2 periods, periods that were early/late and months with no period.....so I started tracking my cycle on www.monthlycycles.com to try and give myself an idea of when I should start and follow that for when I should ovulate. However we haven't had any luck. I've heard that just because you have a period doesn't mean you ovulate so that makes me wonder if we are trying for no reason. If mymonthlycycles is accurate then I was 4 days late in sept and a week late in oct, which is better then what I was months prior to that, making me think my body is finally getting back to normal. I will NEVER use the shot again!!!!

Thanks for any info

I used the Clear Blue Ovulation Monitor. I bought a used one from a friend of mine for $70 & that's what I use for my third daughter. They say not to buy them used but they say that about breast pumps too. I had success with both as being used. Just clean them well, I even found one on eBay that had been professional cleaned so they are out there too. It keeps tracj over a period of time of when you ovlate so then it can tell when is the best time to try.

I was very reluctant to use the ovulation sticks. I always thought that you should just be able to make a baby (uhhhh...) the old fashioned way unless you had any fertility problems of course. Well, 8 months after I had Mirena removed, still no baby. I tried the First Response Ovulation Test kit. I think it came with 7 sticks that you pee on. My first cycle I was pregnant!!!!! So, I would say it may be worth the $20 investment. Also, if you are not ovulating then you will really need to call you OB/GYN anyway. Good luck!

The depo shot really messed me up too. The ovulation sticks allow you to find out if you are indeed ovulating or not. I was not, and ended up going to a dr that helped, with medication, me to ovulate again.

The brands do not matter, I bought them 100 at a time off ebay, that way I wouldn't feel guilty about using so many a month, I would even use them morning and night when I was supposed to be ovulating, because you could have as little as a 12 hour window and if you are only testing once a day, you could miss it.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

Your hormones are obviously out of whack, something I suffered from from about age 15 to about age 42, when my chiropractor/kinesiologist determined that I had a hormone imbalance. For several decades, I would have periods as much as 90 days apart. Shots of progesterone in the butt to start my period were not unusual, although I never had any trouble getting pregnant. (During the time I was having children, my periods were closer to 30 days apart.) As soon as my doctor began treating me for the hormone imbalance, my periods were regular for the first time in my life. (My husband has generally considered this type of medicine to be quackery, but when my periods became regular--something that affected HIS life--he had to admit that what my doctor was doing was working.) The regular periods continued until I began going through menopause about 5 years ago. I'm now 55. There are quite a few chiropractor/kinesiologists in Wichita. I see Dr. Arnold at 21st and Ridge Road. His phone # is ###-###-####.

Hi C.!
I was using an ovualation kit when I got pregnant with my son. My ex-husband and I had tried for a year and a half with no luck. Finally we got an ovulation kit. We had intercourse on the days it indicated I was ovulating and got pregnant that month--our very first time trying it! I wasn't confident it would work and didn't want to spend much on it so I just got the generic Walgreens version. Comparable to First Response's test I believe. Anyway, best of luck to you and your hubby on getting pregnant with baby #2!!!

Go to your OB and see about the 21 day test. It helps determine if you are ovulating. The taking charge book also is helpful. I used the ovulation sticks but they never worked for me. I ended up borrowing a clear blue easy digital ovulation kit. ( you pee on the stick then put it in the monitor and it reads it. They are expensive ($200 I think) but might save you in the long run. You might also consider accupuncture. I used the digital tests along with accupuncture and got pregnant after a year if trying for # 2. try and not obsess about it. And I too wanted mine a certain distance apart in age, but you can't control that. So take some pressure off and I bet you it will happen!!!

I have had some luck with the ovulation tests. When you say you are tracking the your cycles are you doing the temperature method. I know that I was having irregualr cycles and went and saw an ccupuncturist - typically some chiropractors to get my cycle back on course. After a couple of treatments I was back to normal.

It took me 9 months to get pregnant with my first after Depo and 1 1/2 years with my 2nd !!! Depo really messes up your system ! I only took it because I didnt want periods .... I never had any side affects until after children and my major one was weight gain !!! I would not reccommend using it again !!!
As far as ovulation tests go I have no advice because I knew when I was ovuating each month ! I always had severe cramping and lots of dischage during my ovulating time frame ! I like First Response's pregnancy test .... so maybe you could try there Ovulation test ?!?! Good Luck !

After getting pregnant VERY easily with my DD, I figured the same would be true a couple years later when we decided to try for #2. I was wrong! Turns out, my cycles were still "regular" but my ovulation timing changed by several days! Instead of ovulating around day 12...it was around day 18! Big difference if you're trying to plan! LOL (We unfortunately had to try to plan around military schooling, upcoming deployments, and moving again.)
I tried a couple different OPK kits...most of them never gave me a clear positive.
ANSWER brand was the BEST for me! (And worked on the first month of trying!) They give you about 28 strips I think per kit...it's not too expensive, and instead of using it for 28 days...I used it morning (first morning urine...though I know they don't recommend that) and again around 3pm each day (after holding my pee for at least a few hours) starting around day 10 just to make sure I didn't miss my LH surge. I also looked for the "signs" of ovulation...which for me, seemed to last a LONG time...weeks.
So...this is the one I'd recommend trying! Worked for me...I'm due in the next few weeks with DS-to-be...hubby is home and not deployed, and we don't have to move for another 6 months! Jackpot!
Good luck!
