Ovulation Kits - Fountain Valley,CA

Hi,

My husband and I recently decided to start trying for our first baby. YEA!!!! My doctor told me I should try a simple ovulation kit in order to get a better idea of when I ovulate (since it can fluctuate). Does anyone have any recommendations? I just need a simple urine test like Early Response or Clear Blue Easy (something from Target or a drug store). My doc also recommended doing it twice a day since it can easily be missed. There's a big difference in prices but I also don't want to go cheap if it's not as good. We're both young and healthy so I'm not too concerned about temping and charting quite yet. I've read all about "having sex every other day for a month, etc." so I'm not really looking for comments on that. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

YEA!!!! 7 months later we are now 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant (went to the dr. today)!!! We tried the Answer ovulation kits and then switched to the Target brand 7-pack for a few random tests. I also went through a stressful period when I lost someone very close to me this year so it took us a while longer than hoped. Anyway, we are thrilled, thrilled, THRILLED! Thanks so much for the advice!

When I was trying to conceive, I just bought a bunch of pregnancy tests (I took a slightly different approach)from this web sight, but they also have ovulation tests. Good prices for quantity!

Good luck!

Hi,
My hubby and I used Clear Blue Easy's digital ovulation kit. It's very simple to use and worked for us the very first time!
Good luck,

I tried the ovulation kits. But then I got tired of using it, and what I did was basically just watching my body and looking out for my ovulation symptoms... ie: cramping/pinching,headache, discharge that will gradually look like egg-whites etc.
Once I got the 'symptoms', then we hit the sack everyday for a week.

I am not young, having had my first pregnancy in my late 30's... and it worked for us. I even got pregnant naturally after that using the same method.

All the best and good luck,
Susan

Similar to other responses... don't waste your money. It's like $20 per kit and you only get one test. Plus, I found the times I tried the kits I was more anxious about waiting to see and it was difficult to figure out the timing. I would just try organically first : )

Hi! Congrats on the fun part of trying to conceive!! First Response now makes a 20 (or 30??) pack so you can test every day. And it averages out to be cheaper then the 7 day kits. Another free way to figure out ovulation is to chart it you can do it online for free and it's incredibly easy. iVillage.com has a fabulous one and it's pretty easy to use. (plus IF you have fertility issues down the road your Dr will need the charts anyway. This way you have them already and you will learn to see exactly when you ovulate!)

Good luck and enjoy the baby making!!

Congratulations on being in control of your pregnancy and taking the time to PLAN it. Like many have said, you should be on prenatals and a good diet. Quit any bad habits before you get prego... Learn your body! The first person to post mentioned some key things to look for, but I think the discharge is the most important as not all women get the other symptoms. Last but not least HAVE FUN!! Good Luck!

I have used ovulation tests quite a bit and had good success with them. I bought the store brand -- cheaper than name brand, and from what I understand, exactly the same test. My understanding was to use them first thing in the morning and hadn't heard to use them twice a day before. I figured once a certain test worked for me, I stuck with that brand. I had a hard time with charting -- I often forgot to take my temp before I got out of bed, so the tests worked well for me. My husband travels a bit for work and is gone every so often, so we didn't always have the luxury of every other day. I felt good about the tests so I knew our timing was good.

There is a pack of 20 test sticks that I purchased at Walgreens (Answer is the brand name) for $22. Most kits only have 7-10 sticks in a pack and cost $17-18, so this is by far the most economical and useful if you do end up testing twice a day. I have also used kits and never gotten a "surge," so I'm hoping that testing every 12 hours for 10 days produces better results than once a day for 7 days.

Good luck!

I've found the best & cheapest place to get both ovulation and pregnancy tests is online at http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/

They have price breaks for larger quantities too - which will help if your testing 2x a day.

ALOT better than buying a 2 pack for $10+ at the store!

Hope that helps

Hi!

I am (was) a first grade Teacher, too. I now stay home with my baby girl and LOVE it! Are you going to continue teaching? We're trying for our second baby and I have been using just the generic CVS brand of ovulation predictor kits. I also used Answer which is good bc there are more sticks in case you aren't sure when to start testing or feel like you might miss it you can do it twice a day without running out. Good Luck!
